The RAN Compute units are self-contained 19-inch units with an easily removable fan tray unit. Each unit can be
installed standalone in any 19-inch rack. enclosure or in an RBS. The units support both horizontal and vertical
installation.

The RAN Compute units facilitate a scalable, modular system with one or more indoor 19-inch baseband units and a
number of external radios.

For information about 19-inch baseband unit placement in an enclosure or an RBS, refer to Enclosure Description or

Table 2 Environmental Data

Description Value
Temperature(1) 0 to +55°C
Relative humidity 5–95%
Absolute humidity 1–29 g/m3
Maximum temperature change 0.5°C/min
(1) The long term average temperature is recommended to be around 30 °C or lower. Continuous operation close to upper temperature limit will
negatively impact the product long term reliability

Note: The operating environment of the unit must be a temperature-controlled enclosed location suitable for sensitive
data and telecommunication equipment, with very low levels of airborne particles. For example Network
Telecommunication Facilities or inside an Outside Plant (OSP) cabinet.

Note: The unit cannot be installed in cabinets that do not meet the environmental requirements for operation, for
example cabinets using outside air cooling or not having adequate control of particles, airborne corrosive gases,
and salt mist.
For detailed environmental requirements, see Environmental Specifications - Operational Conditions.

3.2.1 Acoustic Noise

The unit emits acoustic noise according to the tables below.

The acoustic noise is ambient temperature dependent.

The unit operates reliably during random vibration as specified by test method IEC 60 068-2-64 Fh.

Random vibration, normal operation 0.04 m2/s3

The unit operates reliably during shock as specified by test method IEC 60 068-2-27 Ea.

Peak acceleration 50 m/s2

Duration 11 ms

3.3 Power Characteristics

The power supply voltage for the baseband unit is −48 V DC. The power supply requirements are shown in Table 5.

Table 5 DC Power Supply Requirements

Condition Value
Nominal voltage −48 V DC
Operating voltage range −38.0 to −58.5 V DC
Non-destructive range 0 to −60 V DC

Fuse and Circuit Breaker Recommendations

The external fuse and circuit breaker recommendation for the RAN Compute unit is shown in Table 6.
The recommendations in this section are based on peak power consumption and give no information on power
consumption during normal operation.
The recommended melting fuse type is gG-gL-gD in accordance with IEC 60269-1. Circuit breakers must comply with
at least Curve 3 tripping characteristics in accordance with IEC 60934.
Note: The maximum fuse rating shown below is for general use. Always consider local regulations and situations that
can lower the maximum fuse rating. The maximum fuse rating for a 14 AWG cable is, for example, 15 A in the
US according to NEC.
The Baseband unit itself is rated for 25 A. When installed in Ericsson Enclosures, the fuse ratings have been
dimensioned for the Enclosure environment, and can be different from what is stated in the table.
For detailed information regarding fuse limits for different installation scenarios, see power cables related
specifications in Baseband Connections.

Table 6 Fuse and Circuit Breaker Recommendations

DC Power Minimum Fuse Rating for Reliable Maximum Fuse Rating (A)(2)
Operation (A)(1)
RAN Processor 6651 15 25
DC Power Minimum Fuse Rating for Reliable Maximum Fuse Rating (A)(2)
Operation (A)(1)
RAN Processor 6647 10 25
(1) The recommended fuse rating corresponds to peak load and depends on the configuration.
(2) This value specifies the maximum fuse rating the unit can withstand. For product safety, the maximum fuse rating must never be exceeded. To
avoid hazardous damage, general fuse dimensioning must consider all external factors, such as local regulations and cable dimensioning.

3.3.1 Power Consumption

For information on power consumption, see Power Consumption Data and Power Consumption Calculations.
4 Hardware Architecture
