Document of Changes and Events – Automatic & Manual
• Eli Lilly recognized additional savings from the elimination of documentation and
transposition errors.
Involves only 1 person from the safety of the maintenance shop or operator room.
Savings of 31 minutes per instrument.

Monitor Instruments & Valves for prioritized alerts
• Alabama Power technicians were able to spot trouble in the hydrogen cooling system valve
before it caused a system upset. Loose linkage was the problem, but it was easily fixed, and a serious
situation was avoided.
• Eli Lilly estimates a reduction of about 40 percent in the time required for instrument maintenance,
saving approximately $52,500 per year.
• Bayer received a pre-warn alarm of control valve deviation on a critical distillate receiver control
valve, which led to recognition of a stem packing leak. The potential negative impact of the failure of critical
control valves like this one can amount to as much as $100,000 per hour.
Easily transfer the configuration of the failed device to the new replacement device.

Streamline Calibration Management
• Cianbro reduced calibration and documentation time by 50%, from 3 to 1.5 hours per instrument.
• Eastman Chemical saves at least 20 minutes per device calibration; more than 250 person-hours
annually for 750 instruments.
• Eli Lilly realized more than 80% of their calibration checks found the instruments to be within the
acceptable tolerance level with no adjustment needed.

Valve Diagnostics
• BP learned approximately 60% of their valves were removed for maintenance unnecessarily.
On a typical offshore platform with 70 valves, this saves $80 - $160K per overhaul.
• DowDuPont decreased valve maintenance costs by $100K per turnaround.
• Eli Lilly pulls valves only when maintenance is needed, saving a facility about $16,500 per year. The
amount of time needed for an annual shutdown was reduced by half, increasing plant
availability and allowing for production of additional batches.
