The Yajurveda-SaïhitÁ is the collection of the yajus, i.e., sacrificial
mantras. This SaïhitÁ has been handed down in two forms, viz. Ïukla (White)-Yajurveda and KéÒÆa (Black)-Yajurveda. The Ïukla- Yajurveda is known as VÁjasaneyi- SaïhitÁ. Of this VÁjasaneyi- SaïhitÁ, there are two recensions, viz. KÁÆva and MÁdhyandina, which however, differ very little from each other. The chief difference between the SaïhitÁs of the ‘Ïukla’ and the ‘KéÒÆa’ Yajurveda lies in fact that the VÁjasaneyi- SaïhitÁ contains only the mantras, while the SaïhitÁs of the KéÒÆa -Yajurveda contain, beside mantras, the BrÁhmaÆa portions belonging to them. The VÁjasaneyi- SaïhitÁ consists of forty chapters. These chapters mainly contain the prayers for important sacrifices like, DaÐapurÆamÁsa, Agnihotra, CÁturmÁsya, RÁjasÚya, VÁjapeya, AÐvamedha, Sarvamedha, etc. The present edition contains the original text with the commentaries by UvaÔa and MahÍdhara with the English translation by R.T.H. Griffith. We trust this revised edition will be certainly liked by both scholars and English knowing readers.
