My interest in Nursing started at a very young age and that inextinguishable passion to care for

and alleviate people their pains still burns until now. As a young girl growing up, I was always in
and out of the hospital due to a series of illnesses and injuries and during those visits to the
hospital I encountered different hospital personnel but, I was more fascinated by the
selflessness, care and empathy exhibited by the nurses who attended to me. Nurses are indeed
inspirational beings. The devotion and humanity of nurses which goes beyond treating patients,
but genuinely wanting to make them happy and comfortable in difficult moments is truly
awesome. This is the main reason why I want to train in the field of nursing, particularly as a
pediatric nurse, to provide help to young individuals, families and communities so they can gain
and uphold optimal health.
After my undergraduate degree in Microbiology, I had intensive training in the medical
laboratory at a private laboratory in the capital city of Nigeria. During this compulsory one year
of training, I gained a lot of valuable experiences, honed my communication skills, created and
maintained a sterile field, properly collected specimens to be sent for bacteriological
examination, this being something I consider extremely important within the nursing career as
nursing is a versatile field and the aspect I worked in has many links with nursing. Most nurses
take care of sick people, diseases are caused by microorganisms and this has made me aware
that illuminating the invincible world of microbes and microorganisms is key to developing an
effective means to tackling the prevalence of illness, maintaining a clean and sterile
environment and implementing an effective treatment plan. Epidemiology and public health
also form part of my course and nurses must adapt to outbreaks of novel viruses and diseases
to proffer the necessary support both to patients and coworkers.
Having taught in kindergarten, primary schools and children classes at church, I have walked
with children and families from all spheres of life. During my job as a kindergarten teacher, I
assisted children ages one to three to adapt and be fully integrated into basic primary school by
providing them with the fundamental knowledge and skills they need to succeed. I walked with
children with special needs ranging from intellectual disability to motor disorders. I have dealt
with challenging behaviors and have a clear understanding of the needs and problems of each
child. Having encountered this amazing kids and most importantly, making minds and equipping
younger generation for better future it has honed my ambition of becoming a pediatric nurse.
Engaging in extracurricular activities has enhanced my communication and interpersonal skills
as well. In high school I participated in several athletic sports and various competitions within
my state. Whilst being health prefect, my responsibilities included making sure I promptly
administered first aid treatment to sick and injured students and seeking professional medical
assistance in a more severe case. As service to me church, I am a lector and I have also helped
out in the Bible school classes teaching little kids how important it is to uphold good morals,
read the Bible and follow the teachings as instructed. I was part of an international team that
raised over 2 million naira for the care of orphaned and out-of-school children which was
masterminded by a renowned cosmetic company where I am currently a marketer. These
duties have allowed me to sharpen my teamwork, leadership, organizational and
communication skills. In my free time, I enjoy reading both fictional and non-fictional books. I
love learning new languages, amongst the few I speak, I love the German language the most,
culture and practices of other people are a thing of interest to me that is the reason I fancy
travelling a lot because it allows me the opportunity to learn new things. I also have a keen
interest in making unique and rare arts at my leisure which I sometimes sell for extra money.
Following my final year in the university, I was awarded a departmental merit award for the
‘Best Personality' out of the 120 students in my class.
In 5 years, I would like to see myself as a practicing nurse in a hospital where I will provide
comprehensive care that encompasses patients’ social, emotional, cultural and physical needs.
Moving forward I would also like to establish a foundation that would focus on taking care of
children suffering from heart-related ailments.
I am certain that studying at the University of…… will provide indispensable insight into working
with people and a unique opportunity to acquire a range of skills and expertise in the area of
nursing.
