STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

University of Florida

MSc Biomedical Informatics.

My name is ONU CHIDIMMA MABEL. Professionally i am a trained Microbiologist and Public and
Community Health leader. I currently work at Hope Group of Companies Abuja, Nigeria as an Info-tech
support assistant.

As the world progresses and advances technological wise, healthcare delivery must intertwine with
technology. The concept of biomedical informatics is an interdisciplinary field in the healthcare industry
that uses information technology to organise and analyze health records to improve healthcare
outcomes. As a rapidly growing field across the healthcare sector, biomedical informatics deals with the
resources, devices, and use of health and medical data. It provides electronic access to medical records
for patients, doctors, hospital administrative, insurance companies, and biomedical information
technicians.

Passionate about healthcare, public health, and the role information plays in healthcare delivery I have
found my voice within the healthcare, safety, and biomedical informatics subsection. I believe that this
area of expertise allows me to interact better with members of the local community I serve, as I am
better able to proffer advice and solutions to the peculiar health issues of community members I deal
with everyday. The health of a community determines the health of a nation and I aspire to build a
career that focuses on promoting a sustainable form of healthy living in any community I find myself in.

My passion for healthcare is tied to health data and information and how it affects global health
continues to be the guiding factor that directs my career aspirations, learnings, and long-term goals. I
hope that taking a post-degree program in biomedical informatics will help me manage large-scale
community and public health issues that are drivers of economic prosperity for government, public and
multilateral institutions and companies across the world.

My desire to pursue a masters degree in biomedical informatics is to enable me to broaden my

professional horizon and learn from the best at the University of Florida. The University of Florida's
biomedical informatics program offers indepth knowledge of digital health for the future leaders and
policy influencers of the future. The program trains leaders capable of leading substantial change in the
healthcare system and influencing policy. The MBI program curriculum enables graduates to design
systems that serve the needs of multiple stakeholders, including patients, clinicians, developers,
vendors, and policy makers. It provides training on managing advanced biomedical informatics tasks,
building efficient systems, and shaping digital health policies. Advanced subjects such as data science for
clinical research are covered, in addition to the traditional topics of Artificial intelligence for health
research, database management, and security and privacy in clinical research. The program prepares
students to enhance healthcare efficiency and patient experience. Realworld experiences and industry
connections ensure that graduates are ready to lead in this ever changing field.

My long term goal is to work with global or local health institutions that have a public health and
community health management sustainable framework that is backed by preventive tools and
innovation that avoids or preempt another pandemic or epidemic that impacts humanity, drives
prosperity, and more importantly ensures complete stakeholders satisfaction. I am poised to become a
top rated biomedical informatics and community health leader in the world through the lens of my
American Education at the University of Florida. Like every other citizen 9f the world, I will be fortunate
to meet in the classroom, I believe that my varied Microbiology, writing and community health
background coupled with my experience in the tech space will be useful in a classroom where diverse
perception and worldviews are welcome.

I will be grateful to be offered admission to the University of Florida. Thank you for reading. I look
forward to learning.
