This year-long course provides a solid grounding in

Ugaritic, the oldest attested Northwest Semitic language
and close linguistic relative of Biblical Hebrew. Students
will gain familiarity with the alphabetic cuneiform
writing system and the main grammatical features of
Ugaritic; examine its relationship to Biblical Hebrew and
other ancient Semitic languages; and read key
mythological texts such as the Ba’al Cycle, Kirta, and
Aqhat.
