Project introduction
I Have been asked by my friends online gaming and remarking shop
‘first4games’ to help design and build a network and computing
solution
since first4games doesn’t have the necessary equipment I will plan a
computer system including a complete network that meets the
requirements and future expansions
First4games will sell new and used games and allow users to acces tto
download music and games and also to offer classes on how to
download music and configure
Purpose
I will build a lan network (local area network)for first4games since it is a
small office when we build it we will add
• Downloadable music and games for the customers
• Staff will be able to search for music and games
• The network must be cost effective
• Three high spec computers one for stock, sales and downloading music
• At least and printer or a scanner
• Computer will be able to config to users
• Cyber security like firewalls antiviruses with a password to keep everything
secure

User requirements
The user requirements of a network is to have good upload and
download speeds on the network also security measures should be put
in place for user to keep there data and privacy safe also its scalability
to future proof the network, add back ups so if anything bad happens
to the computer the data will still be there

Star topology-test plan

It works as the computer can communicate with each other and

send emails and receive them this shows that the star topology
works
Bus topology-test plan
In this bus network it can successfully send and
receive emails by one another shown by the
screenshots in the slide
Designing and configuring a bus topology
Designing and configuring a star topology
Two network topologies
A star network topology A bus network topology
A star topology is a network topology where each A bus topology is where each computer and any other network devices
individual piece of a gaming device that is attached to a
gaming server is connected to a single cable that is normally a coaxial cable or a RJ-45
that is used to tie them together
Pros
• Stars are easy to install and wire Pros
• No disruptions to the network when connecting or • Bus topology has a smaller cable than a star topology
removing devices so better for gaming than bus • Very cost effective and there is no hubs and switch's required
• Easy configuration for peripherals if they have a connection
• no delay for the person on the end unlike bus
topologies where the first person on the network mechanism so it can be easily deployed in the gaming server
will have no delay but the person on the end will
have a lot of delay creating a unfair disadvantage
cons
Cons
• Requires more cable length than a linear bus topology
• Huge delay for the person on the end of the bus line so inst good for
• Star is more expensive than bus topology because of gaming
the cost of connecting devices • Packet loss is high which the higher is the more latency you have in-
• Performance of gaming is how well the gaming server game
can run at the centre of the topology • If the main cable is damaged the whole network fails or splits into
two

Uses and features of different computer
networks
LAN(local area network)
A local area network covers a small area like a building that are used to connect computers in a local area and are normally connected through
ethernet cables or wireless and depending on the distance and how many people are on the network can effect the speeds the big vulnerability
in lan is its security that is since people can easily connect it is easier to attack normally used in office, gaming rooms and in school networks
Pros
• Cost-effective multi-user computer environment.
• High transmission rate to accommodate the need of both user and equipment.
• Very high speed.
Cons
• Security
• Crashes
• Cost
Uses and features of different computer
networks
WAN (wide area network)is a network that has a large geographical area that can span from city’s to
being able to connect globally like the internet, it connects multiple LANs and other devices
allowing them to communicate and share resources over long distances. Features of a WAN include
sharing resources like files apps to other people. Speed, WANs offer high speed data transmission
for efficiency.
Pros
• Convenient and instant communication with others regardless of their location
• Cost-effective, as it eliminates the need for traditional mailing and phone services
• Increased efficiency in business and personal communication
Cons
• Security risks
• It has a limited bandwidth
• Slower compared to other networks

Star topology network

A star topology is a common network setups that every

computer or device that can connect to a network connects to
a central network device, the central network device acts as a
server and the computers, printer and many other peripheral
devices to act as clients.
In the setup itself of a star network it is ether coaxial cable or
rj-45 connecter, this is a reason why it is called a star because
how the devices connected to a central network look like a star.
Speed and connectivity can be a issue for the star network,
although it can have no limit on how many computer it can use
the more computer the more it hinders the network speed
Star is a LAN (local area network) which is a network that
connects computer within a limited area such as a school or
college or a office building and many more
Bus topology network
A bus topology is where the network is a bunch of nodes that directly connect
to a link called a bus, a host on a bus network is called a station in every station
will receive all network traffic and the traffic generated by each station has
equal transmission priority
The bus network is normally connected through coaxial cable which is a cable
that consist of a central conductor surrounded by a layer of insulating material
with a metallic shield and a outer insulating layer this cable is common in bus
networks because it is relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and can transmit
data at high speeds
A bus network is easy to set up and maintain unlike other networks and
requires less cable so a lot more cost-effective, it is easy to identify issues on a
bus network since there are fewer points of connection compared to other
topology's and the less connected, higher the internet speeds so a bus network
is really efficient for small networks
The bus network does have some drawbacks like limited scalability the bus
network can become congested if there is a lot of devices connected resulting
in poor performance and if a device is damaged on a network it can result in
the whole networking having some down time for devices. Security is another
big issue for bus networks the data the is transferring can have vulnerabilities
which leads to data being unsafe.
Alternative solutions
Star is a lot better than bus networks because:
Scalability: A star topology is more scalable than a bus topology because it allows for easy expansion by simply
adding more nodes to the network and in a bus topology adding more nodes can lead to the signal being
weaker and a lot mote network traffic
Performance: A star topology offers better performance compared to a bus topology as the switch can manage
and control the flow of traffic more efficiently so This helps in reducing collisions and improving network speed.
Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting network issues is easier in a star topology as each node is connected to a
switch, making it easier to isolate the source of the problem but In a bus topology issues can be harder to
pinpoint.
Config a router
Allows multiple devices connect to the internet so that
they can play games from different rooms and play with
other people around the world
Router test plan
I sent emails to different pc to show
That there compatible to send emails
To each other so you can see the router
works
Developing a computer network related to the
user
• The star network is the best for gamers since its fast speeds intead of
having a bus network where the connection needs to go through
each pc but the star links it separately supply's are faster and secure
connection
p5-my network matching the criteria
So, basically, 'First4Games' needs a whole computer system and network set up from scratch. This means we
need computers for the staff to search for music and games, and for customers to download stuff online. We
also need a system for classes on how to download music and set up MP3 players. Oh, and the boss wants a
centralized printer for easy access. And one staff member will be in charge of setting up computers and keeping
everything running smoothly. And we need all this to be budget-friendly.
To sum it up, 'First4Games' wants to sell games, let people download music and games in the store, and offer
classes on how to download stuff. To make all this happen, we need a network and computer system.
Customers should be able to download music and games, staff should be able to search for stuff, and the boss
wants a central printer. One person will be in charge of setting up and maintaining the computers and network,
and we need everything to be affordable.
In short, 'First4Games' needs a whole system for selling games and helping customers download music and
games in the store. We also need computers for staff to search for stuff and a printer for everyone to use. One
person will keep everything running smoothly, and we need to make sure it doesn't break the bank.
So, 'First4Games' is getting a computer system and network set up for selling games, downloading music, and
offering classes. Customers and staff need to be able to access everything easily, and we need to make sure it's
all good value for money. And one person will be in charge of keeping everything working smoothly.

P6 explain how my computer network
matches the criteria
• I understand the importance of having a secure network for the First4Games shop. With three high-spec computers designated for
sales, stock control, downloading music and games, and classes on MP3 players, it is crucial to have an operating system and
application software in place. Shared folders and files with different access permissions ensure that sensitive information is
protected, and a shared hardware network resource like a printer or scanner enhances efficiency.
• Having at least three network users, including a network administrator with full control, is necessary for managing the computer
network effectively. Configuring the network for user management, setting up network utilities like remote desktop and
antivirus software, and requiring usernames and passwords for access all contribute to a secure environment.
• Considering the costs of setting up a network, it is important to budget for both hardware components and software resources. As
the shop plans to expand with a general information website and a secure e-commerce platform, the network should be
scalable to accommodate future growth. Planning for additional capacity ensures that the network can adapt to the changing
needs of the business.
• In conclusion, setting up a secure computer network for the First4Games shop is essential for its operations. By following the
outlined requirements and planning for future growth, the shop can maintain a reliable and efficient network infrastructure. As
a young professional, I am committed to ensuring the success of this project and will work diligently to meet the needs of the
business.
