(03.06.1952 – 13.05.2024) Late Professor Dr. Manikuntala Haldar (De) was an iconic Professor of this University from 1991 to 2016. She was the recipient of two gold medals: as first class first in her own subject (Pali) as well as the highest scorer among women students in Arts faculty in 1973. She was one of the members of ‘A Critical Pali Dictionary Project’ – an International Project conducted by Royal Danish Academy, Copenhagen. She penned various books, articles.... etc. Post –Graduate Diploma in Buddhist Studies – an evening course was introduced by her on the auspicious occasion of celebration of the Centenary of the Department of Pali in 2007. Under her able leadership it became a full-fledged independent department –the Department of Budhhist Studies in 2014.
