1. Preface

With the quick development of 5G, the communication network bandwidth is greatly

increasing, which brings upgrade requirements for transmission and routing devices. As a carrier

for device housing, power supply, temperature adjustment, and scheduling management, the

power consumption of the equipment room will be greatly increased. (The power consumption

of a typical CO equipment room increases by 36–74 kW.) The power consumption of a typical

integrated access/common aggregation equipment rooms increases by 7–27 kW. In addition, to

reduce latency, communication computing is gradually sinking, which will help thousands of

industries achieve digital and intelligent transformation. Traditional communication equipment

rooms need to create conditions for edge computing deployment.

Power consumption is greatly increased and edge computing is ready, posing great

challenges to traditional equipment room facilities. Load bearing capacity, limited space and

cable system of the traditional equipment rooms cannot meet requirements of capacity

expansion. Reconstruction involves power room construction, cable duct expansion, and cable

tray rectification, which requires high investment and long time. Second, some old equipment

rooms have been built for a long time, resulting in low power energy efficiency. Some key

components are out of the market, making O&M difficult. In addition, the traditional integrated

access/aggregation equipment room does not have the space for MEC devices or power supply.

Therefore, new AC power supplies and AC cabling are required for reconstruction. The entire

process requires high investment and long construction time, and cannot support fast service

deployment. All the preceding problems pose new requirements for the energy facilities of the

equipment room.

Therefore, when designing site energy solutions, attention should also be paid to energy

input, energy conversion, and energy use. That is, an end to end (E2E) efficient energy solution
should be adopted. In addition, the site energy design must consider the evolution requirements

in the next three to five years to avoid repeated and inefficient investment.

Based on power supply innovation and the core concept of simple, intelligent, and green,

Huawei site energy solution features a three-layer architecture covering cloud, site, and device,

achieving optimal CAPEX for 5G evolution without increasing OPEX

This technical proposal analyzes ICE customer's requirements, provides a technically leading

and commercially reasonable telecom energy solution based on Huawei's understanding and

necessary assumptions, and describes the composition, features, and values of Huawei solution,

helping the customer quickly find the optimal solution.

4. Solution Feature Description

4.1 Simplified Features

Huawei simplified equipment room power supply supports simplified deployment, which is

implemented by adding no equipment rooms, cables, AC power supplies, and air conditioners.

Compared with the traditional equipment room power supply + lead-acid battery solution,

Huawei's solution saves more than 50% space and load bearing capacity. No new equipment

room needs to be added or leased during service expansion. Huawei's solution supports 57 V

DC constant voltage power supply. The cable loading capability is improved by 40%. Cables can

be reused for capacity expansion in the equipment room, eliminating the need for engineering

reconstruction. Compared with the traditional old equipment room power system, the energy

efficiency of Huawei's power system is improved by more than 5%, thereby reducing the heat

consumption of the equipment room. In addition, the lithium-ion lead-acid battery is removed

from the heat-sensitive source. The operating temperature of the equipment room can be

increased by 10°C, and the power consumption of the air conditioner is reduced by 35%. These

factors ensure that the air conditioners in the equipment room do not need to be reconstructed

during service expansion.

4.1.1High-Density
The power density of Huawei simplified equipment room power system is greatly

improved. For the power supply scenario of the core/backbone aggregation equipment room,

use separate power supply. Huawei's solution can replace the traditional five cabinets with three

cabinets. In addition, the lithium battery in Huawei's equipment room can support a maximum

of sixteen 1000 Ah cabinets in hitless parallel. Compared with the traditional solution, the entire

solution saves 55% space and saves 70% energy.

4.1.2Intelligent Parallel System
In the industry, the derating coefficient is large (usually close to 50%) when lithium

batteries are connected in parallel, and the number of paralleled lithium batteries does not

exceed 16. In the following you can find some examples of the benefits to use intelligent

parallel systems:

• In a typical CO equipment room with 3-hour backup power (load: 55 kW), three power

systems are required for the lithium battery solution in the industry. Only one power system

is required for Huawei's solution, reducing the installation labor hour by 35%, footprint by

55%, and load bearing capacity by more than 25%.

• In the typical CO equipment room with 0.5-hour backup power (load 160 kW), the lithium

battery solution in the industry requires five sets of power systems. Huawei only needs one

set, which saves 25% of the installation labor hour, 65% of the footprint, and 60%+ of the

load bearing capacity. The traditional lead-acid battery solution requires a power system.

Compared with the traditional solution, Huawei's solution saves more than 40% of battery

capacity, 55% of footprint, and 70% of load bearing capacity.

4.1.3Simplified Evolution
Huawei simplified equipment room power system supports component-level and system-

level modular evolution. Lithium batteries in the equipment room support a maximum of

sixteen cabinets connected in parallel. Resources can be configured as required. Hybrid use of
old and new batteries is supported to maximize the value of energy storage. In typical

scenarios, the investment of Huawei solution can be reduced by more than 20% compared with

the lithium battery solution in the industry. The combined power system supports a maximum

of five cabinets in parallel, and the parallel capacity can reach 12,000 A.

Huawei's solution supports flexible deployment (centralized deployment and distributed

deployment) to maximize the use of equipment room space and save cable configurations.

4.1.4Ultra Safe
CO BoostLi uses the most stable lithium iron phosphate (LFP) material, burning or needle

when the fire, non-explosion; It integrates the intelligent BMS dedicated for communication to

automatically adjust voltage and limit current and implement high-precision balancing

management. The CO BoostLi ensures absolute safety and self-extinguishing in extreme cases.
