1.a) Explain the operation of three phase induction motor with a neat circuit diagram.
b) How rotating magnetic field is produced in a three phase machine?

2.a) Explain the effect of non-uniform air gap in synchronous machine.


b) What is synchronous power? Explain the power angle characteristics of synchronous
machine with and without saliency.

3.a) Derive an expression for electro dynamic equation of a spring and plunger
arrangement.
b) Derive a torque equation for a singly excited rotational system.

5.a) A separately excited d.c. generator running at 4500/п rpm has the following
parameters:

ra = 0.4Ω, La = 0.01H , rf = 115Ω , motor torque constant km= Md, If = 2Nm/armature
amp, D = 0. The armature current is 50Amps, with rate voltage across the armature
and field. Determine the magnitude of constant load torque.

8.a) Explain about Magnetic saturation in electrical machines.


b) Explain the transient analysis of separately excited d.c. generator with mathematical
expressions.
