Campaign Editor

The Campaign Editor is a tool to create/edit custom campaigns, i. e. sets of missions purposed
for being played one after another. It provides for setting starting bonuses for each mission as
well as migrating heroes.

Creating a new campaign

Select Tools -> Create Campaign.

The New Campaign window appears, in which the user has to enter the campaign’s name (in
Roman letters only: in fact this is the name of its file, while the in-game name of the campaign
itself can be specified later).

Once the campaign is created, the editing window is invoked in which the user can specify
campaign’s name, description and short description (summary) for main menu (20 characters
long) as well as add/remove/edit its missions.
Buttons “Up” and “Down” allows changing missions order.
Clicking “Ok” saves all the changes while clicking “Cancel” discards them.

Note: If you modified in the Map Editor any map already integrated in the campaign, you should
select this map (mission) in the Campaign Editor, remove and add it again, in order to make it
work properly in the campaign mode.
A new mission window is invoked for any operation with the missions.

In it, the user can specify the mission’s name (an entity different from the map’s name), its
description, select the map for this mission to be played on, specify the starting bonuses and the
migrating heroes.

The following describes each of the elements in greater detail.

Select Map
Only custom Single Player maps that are located in the <HoMM V installed path>/Maps folder
are available to choose from.

Select Migrating Heroes


The maximal number of them is 4. The user is to choose either the Default Hero option (in which
case it will be the most ‘skilled’ of the heroes who will migrate to the next mission) or specify
one of those already standing on the map. It should be remembered that the mission into which
the hero will migrate must have an entry point set (a marker on the map to be replaced with a
new hero when the mission is loaded in the game).
Entry point proprieties allow adjusting hero’s position and his army. Spells and Artifacts cannot
be transported by this way.
Heroes should be transported to only one side, because when choosing more than one default
hero, there is no control over where each hero will be spawned on the map.
When a hero already standing on the map (not default hero) is selected to be transported, an
instance of this hero should be placed on the destination map. All skills and experience will be
replaced when the mission begins.
Heroes can be migrated over several missions of the same campaign: in that case, their Custom
Destination is to be specified.

Choose Starting Bonuses


A selection of three starting bonuses can be specified for the player to choose one of them. Such
bonuses can be artifacts, troops, resources, spells, or town buildings (Check the buildings list at
the end of the doc).

Choosing one of the TB_SPECIAL buildings that has no association for the faction of the town
placed on the respective map, will not grant a building bonus for it. The same will occur when a
Random Town building was placed on the map and one of these buildings was chosen.
Building selected as a bonus must be allowed in the main town.

The creatures starting bonus will not work if all the slots in the starting hero’ army are occupied
already.

Open an Existing Campaign


This can be done from the File -> Open menu. All the campaigns must be placed in the <HoMM
V installed path>/UserCampaigns folder
The following picture gives an example of an adjusted mission and a finalized campaign.
Playing the Custom Campaigns
Run the game. Go to Single Player->User Campaigns->Load Campaign. Choose a campaign and
click on Load. You will be returned to the previous menu where you will find the campaign. Play
it as you would a normal campaign. Missions are unlocked upon completion of the previous
ones.

Sharing the campaign with other users.


To share your campaign with other users you will need to provide them with a campaign file and
the maps files as well.
