Cure to conflict in the church – 4:1-3
Loving, direct, truthful help.
Answer to anxiety - 4:4-8
v. 4 – rejoice in the Lord (not in circumstances) always, again I say rejoice.
-Faith looks through problem and sees the Lord. 1:18-20; 2:17-18
Reasonableness/gentleness – NOT violent, not quarrelsome, courtesy,
hostile. Slow to defensiveness, quick to listen, humble. 2:2-8
Go to God with cries for help and healing, and let people hear gentle
responses.
Renew mind, don’t numb it – 4:8

Content in abundance:
-Freely admit to God that you do not deserve this abundance and realize that it is all
grace. Phil 1:7
-Give thanks for the abundance as utterly undeserved. 1:6
-Call to mind how freely, at any moment, God could replace the abundance with
suffering, since both are his gifts. 1:29
-Call to mind the supreme all-satisfying value of Jesus Christ. 3:8
-Consciously count the abundance coming to you as rubbish (in comparison to
Christ). 3:8
-Enjoy the abundance as a gift from God and a taste of his goodness, but rest fully in
the superior worth of Christ so that even if the gift were taken away, the contentment
would remain. 2:27-28
Content in misery
-Ack with joy and tears that this misery is from God’s loving hand. 1:29
-Remind yourself with confidence the truth that God turns all miseries for good. 1:12-
13
-Live with the satisfaction that Christ is more to be desired than anything the world
can give. 3:8
-Make all your longings known to God in confident, thankful prayer for whatever you
need in this misery. Don’t become paralyzed and/or fatalistic in the misery. 4:6
-Trust God that he will fulfill his promise to give you the peace that passes all
understanding. 4:6
-Rest in the fellowship that whether this present misery leads to life or death, you are
content. 1:21
