Tropical Deciduous Forests
• Tropical Deciduous Forests are monsoon forests found in large parts of India, northern
Australia and in central America. These region experience seasonal changes.Tropical
deciduous forests experience 80 to 90% humidity throughout the year and the average
temperature is around 30 degree Celsius year around. Trees shed their leaves in the dry
season to conserve water. The hardwood trees found in these forest are sal,teak,neem
and shisham. Hard wood trees are extremely useful for making furnitures , transport
and constructional materials. Tigers , lions, elephants , langoors and monkeys are the
common animals of this region. Major states where tropical deciduous forests are
found:Madhya, Uttar Pradesh,Chattisgarh,Odisha,Maharashtra (Some Parts).
On the basis of availability of water these forest are classified in two
types moist deciduous forest and dry deciduous forest

Moist deciduous forest Dry deciduous forest

• The Moist Deciduous Forests are
found in the regions, which record
rainfall between 100 and 200 cm. The
moist deciduous forests are found
along the foothills of the Himalayas,
eastern slopes of the Western Ghats,
and Odisha.
• Dry Deciduous Forest can be found in
severe and extremely variable climates
characterized by low annual rainfall, 5-6
dry months within the annual cycle, and
nutrient-poor soil. they are found in
Northern and western parts they have
found in area the rainfall between 70 to
100 cm.
IMPORTANCE
Deciduous forests are most important as habitat areas. Many wildlife species rely
on deciduous forests and trees as their primary sources of food and shelter. In
Wyoming, most deciduous trees grow close to streams, rivers, or in moist areas.
Their root systems help keep the soil from eroding and being washed away.
Deciduous forests are also pleasing to our human senses, especially in the fall when
their leaves turn yellow, orange, and red. They give us a place to enjoy the outdoors
and observe nature. Unlike some coniferous forests in Wyoming, deciduous forests
are not harvested on a commercially large scale.
