Article 51-A
USSR In 1976

Sardar Swaran Singh Committee recommended 8FDs

42nd CAA 1976 Included 10FDs in constitution

Non-justiciable Some are moral & Confined to


some are civic citizens only
But parliament is free to enforce them by a suitable
legislation
Objective
• Warning against anti - social activities
• Reminder of their duties
• Promote discipline and commitment

List Of Fundamental Duties


(a) To abide by constitution, respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the
National Anthem.
(b) To cherish and follow the noble ideals that inspired the
national struggle for freedom;
(c) To uphold and protect sovereignty, unity and integrity of
India
(d) To defend the nation & render national service when
called upon to do so
(e) To promote harmony and spirit of common brotherhood
(f) To value and preserve the rich heritage
(g) To protect natural environment
(h) To develop scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of
inquiry and reform;
(i) Safeguard public property and to abjure violence
(j) Excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity
(k) Providing opportunities for education of children in the age group 6 - 14 years
by 86th CAA 2002
