Organizational Communication

🞇 Organizational communication refers to the communication that takes


place between people who are working towards common goals within an
organization.
In each of these interactions, we are occasionally satisfied but sometimes
frustrated by incompetence, insensitivity, lack of coordination, and red tape, all
of which result from ineffective organizational communication.

🞇 Every organization has an organizational pattern to carry out its activities.

🞇 It could be oral or written, visual or audio-visual, formal or informal, and


upward or downward. Internal communication serves to inform, instruct,
educate, develop, motivate, persuade, entertain, direct, control and caution
people in the organization.

🞇 A lot of information is passed among these departments as well up and


down through levels of hierarchy.

🞇 It comprises of formal and informal communication.

🞇 Communication that flows through level of hierarchy is vertical
communication.

🞇 It consists of upward and downward communication.

🞇 In downward communication the information flows from superiors to


subordinates and in upward communication the information flows from
subordinates to superiors.

● A consensus is common agreement of opinion among a group of persons.

● This channel of communication is followed when the management feels the opinion
of all employees is considered important before arriving at a decision.

● Opinion of employees may be taken while dealing with certain matters like VRS
schemes, bonus ,service conditions etc.
Grapevine communication:-
● The dictionary meaning of grape vine is a kind of vine on which grapes grow.
The plant is very weak and spread in any direction.

● In the same way informal communication that spreads secretly without the
knowledge of authority is called grapevine communication.

● Chain grapevine:- one person passes information to another
who passes the information further.

● One person communicates randomly with others who he comes across and
whom he trusts.
● In this way one person passes information to one or more persons and the
communication keeps flowing till all the members receive message.
