C. Objective of The Research

This research will aim to analyze the effectiveness of Teachers’ Strategies in Online

Courses for Young Learners. The research will explore following research questions:

1. What are the current strategies used by teachers in online courses for young learners?

2. How do technological tools and platforms impact the teaching and learning process in

online courses for young learners?

D. Review on Related Literature

1. Teaching Strategy

For learning activities to be successful and efficient, both teachers and students

must be involved in strategic work during the teaching and learning process. Simply

put, the effectiveness of the teaching process is determined by the tactics used.

Teachers must implement interesting strategies that can maintain students' interest.

Maryanti (2021) argues that teaching strategies refer to the methods employed by

educators to promote better comprehension of information among students.

In addition, teachers' strategies give a lot of impact to the learners. Sudjana

(1989) claimed that in the teaching and learning process, the teacher must do several

things in order to achieve a teaching and learning process, including; opening,

teaching methods, giving the material, class management and closing.

2. Online Learning

The development of the internet and technology has increased opportunities for

students to adopt online learning and become more independent in their education.

Therefore, Kenning (2007) claims that a large body of research has established the

value of information and communication technology (ICT) in the classroom. With the

use of ICT, education can become more interesting, meaningful, interactive and

inspiring. In addition, Mahfouz & Ihmeideh (2009) argue that teaching via computers

is very useful for improving students' oral communication skills and for designing

more efficient and relevant learning environments.

Additionally, academics and educators use two different online learning

models: virtual models and non-virtual models. However, considering the increasing

growth of ICT, they prefer to use virtual learning (Stonebraker & Hazeltine, 2004).

Many educational institutions have also adopted this strategy.

3. Young Learner

Young learners are between five and twelve and they have unique educational

demands that are different from those of older students. It is because they have a short

attention span where Young learners (first graders) can only focus for 7 minutes

(Asprilia et al., 2020). That amount of time is short for them to learn. Therefore,

teachers must make the lessons fun, lively, and interesting (Imaniah & Nargis, 2017).

In teaching English to young learners, as claimed by McCloskey (2014), there

are eight principles that a teacher needs to pay attention to. They are: offer learners

enjoyable, active roles in learning experience; help students develop and practice

language through collaboration; use multi-dimensional, thematically organized

activities; provide comprehensible input with scaffolding; vocabulary learning: an

active approach; integrate language with content; validate and integrate home

language and culture; provide clear goals and feedback on performance.

E. Research Methodology

Qualitative research phenomenological studies will be used by researchers. Creswell

(1994) qualitative research is an unfolding model that occurs in a natural setting and it

enables the researcher to develop a level of detail from being highly involved in the actual

experiences. In addition, phenomenological studies are one of the techniques used in

qualitative research. Phenomenological research according to Leedy & Omrod (2001) aims

to understand an experience from the participant's perspective. According to Cresswell

(1994), the steps taken in conducting research include formulating research questions,

conducting interviews, analyzing the data collected, and summarizing the key components

of the experience. As a result, researchers will collect data by interviewing language

learners to get detailed information, and then the data will be analyzed. Finally, the result

will be reported in a description.
