Addition to the LV switchboard

guides
One thousand and one addresses
for tools and suppliers

Introduction

As the title indicates, this guide is an addition to the range of those

already in circulation (commissioning guides, technical manuals,
etc.).

It contains a detailed description of the main products and special

items that are not listed in the LV catalogue and which are often
used during commissioning of electrical switchboards. It helps the
user find an equivalence for products and supplies on the local
market.

Furthermore, you will also find advice about the tooling required for
mounting, monitoring, packaging and shipping Schneider Electric
LV equipment.

This document has been drawn up especially for you by various

teams from the Low Voltage Equipment and Systems division. It is
the second updated version of this guide which is why it has been
classified GO2 (Tool Guide).

With your help we can make it even more detailed and so if you
wish to add information that you judge to be of use to everyone,
please contact:

2.9. Stainless steel screws and bolts (MB, Prisma)

2.9.1. Use
Screws and bolts used to connect bars on the pads of Masterpact
devices than ≥ 4000 A.

Stainless steel screws and bolts must be mounted already

lubricated (grease is Amblygon TA 15/2).
Comply with the tightening torque applicable for this screw type. Use
of stainless steel screws and bolts limits flow of eddy currents, due
to its non-magnetic properties, thus avoiding excessive overheating
at the Masterpact connecting pads.

4.1. Facom torque wrench

4.1.1. Use
Enables torque tightening of all switchboard electrical connections
and connection and adaptation of the Compact NS.

It is vital to comply with the tightening torques recommended in the

technical guides and in the technical manuals for the switchgear.
These wrenches must be regularly checked and calibrated. They
must also be checked if they are dropped, lent, etc. (see the GIQ2
quality inspection guide).
As regards bolt assembly, tightening must preferably be carried out
on the nut, then once torque tightening is complete, the screws
must be marked with acrylic varnish (self-inspection) (see marking
varnish on page 8).

NB: see overleaf for the composition of the three sets of wrenches
used in our workshops as well as a list of additional tools used to
adapt the switchgear.

G02 / ESB / 11.1998 33

Manufacturing tools

6.1.2. Description
■ Punching machine
Manual or hydraulic, this machine must be able to receive punches
of up to 16mm minimum diameter for 10mm thick bars.
The punching tool must be reserved for copper. Punches must be
easily interchangeable in the shortest possible time without requiring
tricky operations. Accessories must be reliable and sturdy.

NB: punches must always be in perfect working order in order to

prevent burr from forming when punching parts.

■ Bar cutter or bar shears

If possible provide a tool with a cutting capacity for copper busbars
160mm wide and 10mm thick.
Provide a busbar storage rack placed upstream from the cutting
tool. This tool will be fitted up against a support equipped with
rollers. Normally placed on this rack, it enables bars to be slid up to
the cutting tool.

■ Bar bending press: Manual or hydraulic

Choose a tool on which it is possible to make right-angle bends as
close as possible to the edge of the bar.
The bending capacity of this press must be sufficient up to a width
of 160mm (MB) and a thickness of 10mm, and must also possess a
bending angle adjustment system.
For the bending radius, refer to the implementation guide.

6.1.3. NB
Busbar working and handling must preferably be performed when
the busbars are laid flat (safety and ease of handling). Provide a
tank for recovery of the copper particles and scraps resulting from
busbar implementation.
When choosing this tool, ensure that it guarantees maximum
operator safety.

Quality inspection tools

9.4. Test cord and plate (MB 400)

When performing electrical tests in the MB 400 switchboards, it is
hard to access all the components installed in the racks.
For example: thermal relays, fuse blowing contacts, access to
settings, etc.

To ensure increased efficiency of these tests, either of the following

devices can be used:
■ Test cord
■ Test plate

9.4.1. Test cord

Cord equipped at each end with fine wire blocks. It must be
sufficiently long to allow connection both of the fine wire blocks
installed at the end of the case and of those in the relevant rack.
The rack will be installed on a table in front of the switchboard.
Tests can be performed while the switchboard is fully energised,
thus enabling simultaneous checking of cables in the rack and in
the cubicle (operating mechanism on terminal, ammeter, etc.).

9.4.2. Test plate

This plate consists of a horizontal partition separating the racks,

equipped with fine wire blocks and an enclosure. This enclosure
must be fitted with a power supply, its protection device,
pushbuttons, indicator lights and sockets connected to the three fine
wire blocks on the plate. Various cabling configurations can be
made using cords.

This equipment enables the control circuit to be monitored should a

project only contain racks. It is also used when the racks are made
available to the quality inspector before the cubicles are completed.
After checking, an electrical test must be repeated on the
switchboard as a whole with the racks installed.

Reception inspection gear

12. Reception inspection gear

12.1.1. Description / Use

■ Grid test device
The grid test is used to determine adhesion of paint on its base.
This device performs a series of parallel incisions at a set distance
from each other and crossing the entire film thickness.

■ Impact test device

Coatings are often submitted to impacts which can damage and
deform their base, thus reducing adhesion.
This device is used to determine impact strength of coatings.

■ Bending test device

This device is used to bend a coating base.
The test judges elasticity and adhesive force of paint.

■ Reflectometer for polish measurements

Used to determine and check polish, variations and differences in
grades on various coatings.

■ Coating thickness measuring device

These gauges are used to determine thickness of almost all
coatings.

12.1.2. NB
This equipment is specific to the manufacturing units and is not
necessary for the assembly workshops.
