Abstract:

Automatic Power Factor Correction (APFC) is a system used to improve the power
factor of electrical power networks by measuring the power factor of the load and
automatically switching capacitor banks into or out of the circuit to ensure that the
power factor remains as close to unity as possible. The APFC panel is an essential
component of the system, and it plays a vital role in regulating the power factor of
the electrical network.
In this project, we aim to design and develop an APFC panel using advanced
microcontroller technology to automate the power factor correction process. Our
APFC panel will consist of a microcontroller unit, a power factor measurement
circuit, and a set of capacitor banks. The microcontroller will continuously monitor
the power factor of the network and switch the capacitor banks on or off as
required to maintain a power factor close to unity.
The project will involve the design of the APFC panel circuit, the selection of
appropriate components, and the programming of the microcontroller to control
the capacitor banks. We will also develop a user-friendly interface that will display
the power factor and the status of the capacitor banks.
The proposed APFC panel has several advantages, including improved power
factor, reduced power losses, increased energy efficiency, and reduced electricity
bills. The project is a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for industrial and
commercial applications, where the power factor plays a crucial role in determining
the overall energy efficiency of the system
