MORAL DEVELOPMENT
Moral development deals with the way we identify right and wrong (Morality) and engage
in reasoning between the two. (Moral reasoning) It encompasses our religious and ethical
values, and it influences our behavior and sense of social development.

MORAL DEVELOPMENT
Religious values are the principles we live by that are based on our religious tradition.

-religious values are the ideas and beliefs that come from our religion and guide how we
live our lives. They're like a compass, helping us make decisions and treat others the way
our religion teaches us.

Roman Catholicism, one of the important values is compassion and helping those
in need. This is often expressed through acts of charity and service to others.

For example, a Roman Catholic might volunteer at a homeless shelter or donate to

a charity that helps people who are struggling. This is because their religious
values teach them to care for others, especially those who are less fortunate.

Ethical values are the principles we live by in taking action on behalf of ourselves or others.

ethical values are the beliefs and principles that guide our actions, helping us decide
what is right and wrong. These values help us make choices that are fair, honest, and
considerate of others.

ethical values are the beliefs and principles that guide our actions, helping us decide what is
right and wrong. These values help us make choices that are fair, honest, and considerate of
others.

For example, a common ethical value is honesty. If you find a wallet on the ground, an
ethical thing to do would be to return it to its owner, even if nobody is watching. This is
because honesty is a value that tells us it's wrong to take something that doesn't belong to
us, even if we could get away with it.

1. Pre-conventional level (childhood):

 A child might think, "If I steal a toy, I might get punished, so I won't do it."
 Or they might think, "If I steal the toy, I'll get what I want, so I'll do it."

Kohlberg's theory says that as we grow up, we learn more about what's right and wrong. It starts
when we're kids and keeps going as we become adults. We learn from our experiences and the
people around us, and that helps us understand what's fair and just.

Example of Moral Development

Consider a young child, Alex, who initially understands morality in terms of rewards and
punishments. At this stage, Alex may not share toys with others, not out of malice, but
because they don't understand the concept of sharing. As Alex grows older and enters
Kohlberg's "conventional" stage, they begin to understand the importance of social
norms and rules. At this point, Alex may share toys with others to maintain social
harmony and avoid disappointing their friends or caregivers.

In short ang Moral Development will start from childhood up until in their adulthood.

Religious values are principles and beliefs that guide the behavior and actions of
individuals within a religious community. They are often based on sacred texts and can
vary between different religions, although there are also similarities.
Example:
In Christianity, one important value is the belief that all people are made in the image of
God, which encourages respect and care for others.
In Islam, modesty is an important value, often expressed through dress and behavior.

Ethical Values
Examples of ethical values include honesty, integrity, charity, accountability, respect,
fairness, courage, and transparency14. These values guide individuals and
organizations in making decisions that prioritize the well-being of others over self-
interest, ensuring ethical conduct in various situations. In the workplace, ethical values
help leaders address important questions regarding product offerings, transparency,
employee welfare, and social responsibility.
