Nature of the Game Chess
• Originated in Northwest India called
Chaturanga – meaning four divisions of
Military- Infantry, Cavalry, Elephants and
Chariotry.
• From India, the game spread to Persia to
Europe.
• In 19th century- modern chess tournament
began.
• In 1886- 1st world chess Champion is
Wilhelm Steinitz.
Objective of the Game

• The object of the game is to checkmate or


trap the opponent's king so that its escape
is not possible. If a king is threatened to
be captured, it is said to be in check, and
the player must remove the king in check
on the next move. If this cannot be done,
the king is said to be checkmate.
