Introducing eduroam at MUBAS

What is eduroam?

eduroam (education roaming) is an international roaming service for users in research,

higher education and further education. It provides researchers, lecturers, and students
network access when visiting an institution other than their own. Authentication of
users is performed by their home institution, using the same credentials as when they
access the network locally at home, while authorization to access the Internet and
possibly other resources is handled by the visited institution. Users do not have to pay
for using eduroam.

As an international service, in some countries, Internet access via eduroam is also

available at other locations than the participating institutions, e.g. in libraries, public
buildings, railway stations, city centres and airports.

What does this mean for MUBAS?

It means that staff and students at MUBAS can access campus WiFi (now branded
eduroam) and enjoy Internet-based services offered by MUBAS and the whole world
in general.

It also means that when a member of staff or a student travels to another institution
within the country or outside, be it a university or any other that has eduroam enabled,
then they shall be able to access the service using the same credentials they use at
MUBAS. This is also true for visiting students and staff. If they have an eduroam
account from where they are coming from, they shall be able to access eduroam at
MUBAS.

Accessing eduaroam

Access to eduroam (campus WiFi) requires a username and password. All members of
staff and students have been provided with an account to access this facility. The
username for eduroam is your MUBAS email address.

NOTE: For members of staff, if your Polytechnic email address is jdoe@poly.ac.mw then your
MUBAS address is jdoe@mubas.ac.mw. For students, if your Polytechnic email address is
bit20-jdoe@poly.ac.mw then MUBAS address is bit20-jdoe@mubas.ac.mw. This new email
address is already activated and linked with your original Polytechnic account. The two practically
work as one. It is this new address that you shall be using as username for eduroam. To check email in
GMAIL, login with the usual Polytechnic account - nothing has changed.
