Role of business education in poverty eradication for students Academic Performance in Obio/Akpor

LGA

Introduction:

The topic investigates the crucial role of business education in poverty eradication and its impact on the
academic performance of students in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA). Poverty remains a
significant challenge in many developing countries, including Nigeria, where it hinders economic growth
and development. According to the World Bank, over 40% of Nigerians live below the poverty line, with
the situation being particularly dire in rural areas. In Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers
State, poverty is a pressing issue that affects the overall well-being of the community. One way to
address this issue is through business education, which can equip students with the skills and knowledge
needed to succeed in the modern economy.

Education, particularly business education plays a crucial role in poverty eradication by providing
students with the necessary skills to start and manage their own businesses. By teaching students about
entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, and other business-related topics, business education can
empower students to become self-reliant and create their own sources of income. This, in turn, can help
lift families out of poverty and contribute to the overall economic development of the community. Also,
business education can also improve students' academic performance by enhancing their critical
thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. These skills are not only essential for success in the
business world but also for academic success. By engaging students in real-world business scenarios and
projects, business education can help students apply theoretical concepts to practical situations, leading
to a deeper understanding of the subject matter and improved academic performance.

Business education can also instill important values such as discipline, perseverance, and resilience in
students, which are essential for overcoming the challenges associated with poverty. By teaching
students the importance of hard work, dedication, and ethical behavior, business education can help
students develop a strong work ethic and a positive attitude towards achieving their goals.

Obio/Akpor LGA, like many other areas in Nigeria, faces significant challenges in terms of poverty and
poor academic performance among students. This study aims to explore the potency of business
education in addressing these challenges and also improve the academic performance of students in the
area. By examining the relationship between business education and poverty eradication, this research
seeks to contribute to the development of effective strategies for improving educational outcomes and
reducing poverty in Obio/Akpor LGA and beyond.
