➔ First part

◆ Identify: What document did English nobles hope would limit the king’s power?
● The document that limited the king’s power was the Magna Carta. ◆ Explain:
How was the creation of Parliament a step toward the creation of democracy in
England?
The Parliament granted ordinary citizens the authority to make decisions on high-level

mandates, a practice that continues today.

➔ Second part
◆ Identify: Who rallied the french troops during the Hundred Years’ War? ●

Joan of Arc, a teenage peasant girl, rallied the french troops during the Hundred
Years’ War.
◆ Elaborate: The Hundred Years’ War caused more damage in France than in
England. WHy do you think this was the case?
● This happened because in the case of France, after The Hundred Years’
War, the king gained more power and in the case of England they
started to have more democracy.
➔ Third part
◆ Describe: What was the Black Death?

● The Black Death was a deadly plague that swept through Europe
between 1347 and 1351.
◆ Explain: How did the Black Death contribute to the decline of the manor
system?
The Black Death contributed to the decline of the manor system due to the significant

reduction in the workforce caused by the plague. Additionally, the surviving peasants and

serfs faced increased demands for their labor, leading some to migrate to growing cities.

◆ Elaborate: Why do you think the Black Death was able to spread so quickly
through Europe?
● Because in the middle ages, Europe was the most populated continent,
which means more disorder, that is, more chances of contagion.
