What is CTQ Drill Down Tree?
The CTQ Drilldown tree is a tool that can be used effectively to convert customer’s needs and
requirements to measurable product or service characteristics. These characteristics are nothing but
metrics. It helps establish linkage between the Project “Y” and business “Y”. It also bounds the project
well to make it more manageable.
This tool is used when you have requirements that need to be converted to metrics.
Why is CTQ Drill Down Tree used?
Metrics are a necessity for any process. You come to know if a process is doing well or not so well by
looking at its metrics. If you do not convert the customer requirements to metrics, your process will
not be in a position to measure its progress from your customer’s perspective. Hence, the CTQ Drill
Down tree is an important tool to be used.
The CTQ Drill Down tree looks like this. As the name suggests, it is a drill-down of factors from the
requirement to drivers to specific CTQ’s.
