In the aftermath of the Christmas vacation, when we returned to school for the next semester in

January 2012, our director invited us to take part in an important activity named ‘’ career day’’. I

was attending my last high school year before I got my degree to start my career at university.

And I decided to study renewable energy without getting any information about the evolution of

that field. To reminder, this activity, the ‘’ career day ‘’, was organized by the ministry of

National Education, to help students to make a choice of what they really want to study after

high school by meeting some adepts of many fields.

At first, when we arrived with our counselor in sight, I headed to the stand of energy field,

Petroleum, and Technology, where the speaker was my model, Pr. Saliou Toure. Since I met him,

I was happy because for me, this occasion would help me to talk with him about my career.

While he started his speech, he introduced himself and presented his faultless career he has had

in Ivory Coast and many countries. To be honest, I was very impressed with that, and since this

activity, I made the decision to work harshly like him to be an emblematic person for my

community.

In addition, I was embarrassed about what I was studying at university. Whether picking the

same major as Pr. Saliou Toure or not will be the right decision, because it was a matter of career

and, if I made a wrong choice, It would be tricky for me to have an outstanding career .Whereas

he explained the advantages, requirements and sacrifice that each of us should make to study in

that field, I was pretty sure that not only this major was mine because I was good at Mathematics
and many subjects related to science, but also I will use my knowledges to serve my community

to improve the energy field.

In addition, the fact that I took part to that activity helped me understand the abilities that I

needed to get if I really wanted a great career like the knowledge of English, and other foreign

languages, the fact of being familiar with nature and traveling all over the world. Therefore, with

this information I received, I draw the conclusion that, it is right to become a good scientific, but

without a perfect mastering of foreign language like English, Spanish, I couldn’t make a great

career like the speaker. Since this day, I took the decision to strengthen my skills in foreign

languages like English, Spanish, German.

Eventually, a few minutes after the speech of the guest, the ministry of the Petroleum and Energy

field of my community came up to greet everyone. During his intervention, he announced that he

will give some scholarships to those who will obtain good grades at the final high school degree

at the national scale, to pursue their training in petroleum engineering at the University of

Houston. When everyone heard that, we were happy to know that our career would be

guaranteed after I studied at that famous University and, our community could rely on ourselves

to develop its field of energy. Since I attended this event, I had the thrill to work harshly and take

up new habits to reach this goal. Unfortunately, after the final high school exam, I applied for

that, but I haven’t been selected.

To sum up, attending a job fair, career day, or other activities related to the carrier is significant

for everyone’s life. Nothing to meet some professionals talking about what you like, you can get

some incentives to progress in life and do everything to resemble these famous people. After
that, I drew the conclusion that I had what it takes to make a great career in that domain. This

experience helped me to understand that studying in the energy field was a cup of tea for me but,

I needed to learn many things to become a model for the future generation. So, we don’t have to

neglect each activity related to our career during our whole life.
