Volvo torque assist helps save fuel by adapting the torque
available to the road conditions.
The concept of Volvo torque assist is to save fuel by providing
enough torque to keep the current speed and acceleration of
the truck — not more and not less. This is achieved by adjust-
ing the torque and acceleration available with regards to the
road topography and load, such that the acceleration of the
truck is optimised at all times.
The torque available can be reduced when driving on a
downhill or on a flat road, while full torque is made available
when driving in an uphill.
Volvo torque assist automatically limits the acceleration to
save fuel. The best results and the largest fuel savings are
gained in the following operations:
• When driving on routes with large speed variations.
• When driving on hilly routes or high gradients.
• When driving on routes with rolling hills.

• When driving with a high gross combination weight.
Volvo torque assist is available in the drive modes Economy
and Standard, and is activated automatically.
Note! Volvo torque assist is disabled if the cruise control or adaptive cruise con-
trol is on, during a kickdown, or if any other drive mode than Economy or Stan-
dard is selected.
