TO THE TEACHER

This document describes Look: ExamView® Assessment.

ABOUT EXAMVIEW®
Look: ExamView® Assessment is an effective, flexible assessment tool that allows teachers to customize their tests.
Teachers can create tests for specific topics, specific lessons or units or a selection of lessons, or even an entire level
by choosing questions from the test banks.

WHY USE EXAMVIEW®?

Look: ExamView® Assessment allows teachers to evaluate what students already know, as well as how well they
have learned the material. Teachers can evaluate what students know by giving them a pre-test before they begin
each unit or level. Teachers can also assess learning by giving post-tests after each unit or lesson, or after each level
is completed. Because of the versatility in the program, the students never have to see the same test twice. The
program also makes it very easy for teachers to quickly create A and B versions of the tests.

Also, many students need experience and practice taking standardized tests. The questions in Look: ExamView®
Assessment resemble the standardized test items that students will be exposed to in their educational careers. By
first administering an ExamView® test some time before the standardized test is given, teachers may better prepare
their students for the standardized test format.

HOW DOES EXAMVIEW® WORK?

Teachers can use the existing unit tests or compose a test quickly and easily by using the QuickTest Wizard. Teachers
can also simply indicate the number of questions and the types of questions they want to include on a test. Teachers
can also create tests by choosing questions according to the individual unit or lesson, or topic on which they want
to focus. Teachers can further customize tests by combining questions from the question bank with original, teacher-
generated questions. They can then simply print out the pre-formatted test for the students to take a traditional paper
and pencil test. Look: ExamView® Assessment also allows the test to be administered by computer, or online if
hosted on your institution’s website.

HOW DOES EXAMVIEW® WORK WITH THE LOOK SERIES?

The Look: ExamView® Assessment is designed to ensure flexibility, but also accountability in learning English.
All levels contain questions that accurately and comprehensively assess mastery of the language introduced in the
Student’s Book.

WHAT DOES THE LOOK EXAMVIEW® INCLUDE?

There are two Placement Test banks (and the matching pre-generated tests) for the series to help ascertain the students’
level and 15 banks of test questions covering the content in the Look series, one for each unit and three cumulative
banks. The teacher can choose questions across these banks using different criteria to build their own tests. The questions
in the banks have been created in the following formats: matching, multiple choice, true/false, completion, short
answer, and essay.

FIELD LABELS
Question type This field allows the teacher to choose questions by their format. For example, true/false,
multiple choice, match, and completion.
Reference This field contains the level and unit which the test item relates to.
(REF)
Topic (TOP) Topics indicate exactly what is being tested. For example, Grammar, Vocabulary, Listening,
Speaking, Phonics, Functions, Writing, or Reading.
The fields above allow teachers to customize quizzes or tests to match their teaching styles and instructional
objectives. Teachers can let the ExamView® program choose a certain number of questions with a variety of question
types by using QuickTest Wizard, or they can choose specific reference and topic question types by selecting
questions corresponding to these two criteria in the relevant fields using the ExamView® Test Builder.

The tests created by the teacher can be saved on a computer and used repeatedly, or teachers may choose a
combination of new and different criteria to create new tests. Additionally, the possible responses to multiple-choice
tests can be scrambled. An answer key for all selected questions is automatically generated each time for the teacher’s
use. Once the teacher has installed the installer, the ExamView® audio will appear in the Tests folder.

As well as the banks, also included is a set of 15 pre-generated sample tests, each containing all the questions from
its source bank (12 units and the three cumulative banks) to be used as a complete self-contained test or to be
edited or shortened as desired.

HOW TO START USING EXAMVIEW®

To access all the teacher banks and sample tests, and create their own tests from the banks, teachers should first
install the package using the main installer files: Setup.exe (PC) or ExamView Installer.pkg (Mac). The banks,
sample tests and audio files will then install at C:\Program Files\eInstruction or C:\Program Files (x86)\
eInstruction (PC), or Applications\eInstruction (Mac).

More information on how to build tests from the banks can be found in the quick start guide “How to create a test in
ExamView.pdf”.

If students are being tested via a local area network rather than using printed tests, they will need to install the
ExamView Player using Setup.exe (PC) or ExamView Installer.pkg (Mac) inside the “EVPlayer” folder.
