“How Miscommunication Happens (and how to avoid it)”

Have you ever presented an idea to a group and it was met with confusion? Or maybe
you've had an argument when the person you were talking to suddenly accused you of not
listening at all to what they were saying? What's going on here? The answer is
miscommunication. This can cause confusion, hostility, and misunderstandings.
When communicating, a person expresses his interpretation of a message, and the person
communicating with him hears his own interpretation of the message. Simultaneously, each
person interprets the messages they receive based on their relationships with others, and their
unique understanding of the semantics and connotations of the words used. Some simple
practices that can help us communicate better on a daily basis.
 First: realize that passive listening and active listening are not the same.
 Second: listen with your eyes and ears, and with your instincts.
 Three: take the time to understand when you are trying to be understood. Be open
to what others might say.
 Four: be aware of your personal perception filters. Elements of your experience,
including culture, community, and family, influence how you view the world.
