Notes
1. There are 2 basic models that demonstrate how light works.

a. The Wave Model of Light

b. The Particle Model of Light

2. Types of Waves

a. Longitudinal Waves

i. Matter moves back and forth as the wave travels, like in a spring or
sound wave

b. Transverse Waves

Waves 1
i. Matter moves up and down as the wave travels, like in water, or in
electromagnetic radiation.

3. Crest: The highest point in a wave.

4. Trough: The lowest point in a wave.

5. Wavelength: The length of one complete wave.

6. Amplitude: The height of a crest or the depth of a tough from the middle.

7. Period: The time it takes to complete one cycle (or travel one wavelength).

8. Frequency: The number of cycles per second.

9. The Wave Equation

V = Λ × F

Worksheet
1. Waves are produced my Vibrating molecules which pass energy to Neighbour
Molecules.

2. Waves are Repeated Disturbance that transfer Energy through Matter and
Space.

3. Waves that need a Medium are called Mechanical and can be either
Transverse.

Wave Questions
1. The highest point on the wave is the crest, the lowest point is the trough.

2. The Amplitude, of a wave is a measure if the amount of energy it carries.

3. The distance from one crest to the next crest is the Wavelength.

4. The Frequency is a measure of the number of waves that pass a point in a

given amount of time.
