Preface

This LABORATORY MANUAL is designed to enrich student learning experiences


in Animal Science 1 (Principles in Animal Science). It is the outcome of several topics in the
lecture phase to put theories into actual activities.

This manual consists of different laboratory exercises and experiments related to the
study of principles of Animal Science . It starts from the very basic concept to higher levels of
the course. It centers most on the basic animal agriculture and to the production of meat,
milk, eggs and other products for the society. Contributions to society of animals and animal
products and basic principles and physiology of nutrition, genetics, reproduction, lactation,
growth and development, health, environment, behavior and current issues facing the
livestock industry.

The different laboratory exercises in this manual emphasize a process where


students are exposed to a wide variety of practical animal production and management.
These are done to enhance students’ ability to reflect, think and analyze situations based on
their previous experiences.

The sequence of the experiments/exercises presented is based on the course


outline, and most of them are designed to fit the existing apparatus, tools and equipment of
the college.

Therefore, students who are taking up this course are advised to go over this
laboratory manual and read the references listed at the end to be able to answer the
exercises sufficiently. You should also feel free to look for other sources of information if
necessary.
