EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Date: June 14, 2024
Analysis: Macroscopic Analysis

The Earth Materials Science Concrete Petrography Laboratory received one (1) sample for
macroscopic analysis. The sample was identified to be Chromite embedded in vesicular basalt.

RESULTS OF ANALYSIS
SAMPLE NAME: Chromite

CLIENT SAMPLE REFERENCE: EMS-P24-048

Figure 1. Sample EMS-P24-048 as received.

The sample EMS-P24-048 is Chromite embedded in vesicular basalt with dimensions of 40 mm in length, 20
mm in width, 25 mm in height, and 41 g weight. Chromite is an oxide mineral that is primarily source of
chromium. It is granular, opaque, steel gray to silver white in color, with light gray streak and a metal lic luster.
It has a hardness of 5.5–6 that can scratch glass, but despite its hardness, it is brittle and can be broken down
easily. It did not react when tested with cold, diluted hydrochloric acid and it is strongly magnetic.

Based on its overall physical properties, sample was identified to be Chromite.
