I am delighted to welcome you to your Applicant Day. The University
of Chichester is a close-knit, friendly community across two
campuses – in Chichester and Bognor Regis.

I urge you to see as much of the campuses as possible and We are a community-focused university where you are

These very special places – with both modern and historical
buildings, exceptional specialist equipment and resources,
great social and sporting facilities, and beautifully tended
gardens – are set up to enable you to feel part of the
university from the start.

The surrounding environment includes the cultural city of


Chichester, the award-winning beach at Bognor Regis, the
outstanding digital and creative communities of the region,
and the outstanding natural beauty of the South Downs, so
if you have time, do go and take a look around the local
area.

You will have a personalised timetable which can be found on pages 8-17.
This will include your registration time. You will need to register before
going into your sessions as our student ambassadors and staff will take
you and your guests to where you need to go.

Finding us by car

FREE PARKING ON CAMPUS The University is on your right-hand side. Follow the road
Car parking is free on a first-come, first-served basis for all to the top left of campus for our car park.
visitors so please ignore any pay stations in the university .................................................

OVERFLOW CAR PARKING
CHICHESTER CAMPUS On-site campus parking is available on a first-come first-
College Lane, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 6PE served basis. Once our car parks are full you will be
directed to the closest pay and display car parks.
If you come into Chichester from the A27 you will pick up
the brown signs for the University of Chichester campus. • Chichester: Oaklands Pavilion, PO19 6BB
Follow these to College Lane which is off Spitalfield Lane. Northgate car park, PO19 6AA

Finding us
by train

It is roughly a 20-minute walk from the train station to the Chichester campus, or there are taxis outside the station.

Walking directions
Exit the Chichester train station on either side of the tracks and turn left on Southgate. Keep going straight ahead until you
see the Chichester cross. This is the centre of the city with shops and cafes to your left, right and in front. Continue to walk
straight ahead on North Street until you come to the underpass. You’ll see Jackson-Stops estate agent on your right. Take
the underpass and turn right along Oaklands Way until you reach the corner of College Lane (opposite Co-op
supermarket). Turn left onto College Lane and walk up the left hand side footpath until it ends. Cross the road and walk up
on the right hand side path until you reach our main vehicle entrance where you will see signs for registration.

You’ll hear more about the Business School and our courses which will include information such as
contact hours, staff background, employability and placements. You will also experience a taster session,
so you can get a feel for our teaching style and how we encourage creative and critical thinking.

For Accounting and Finance, Business Management, Business Psychology


and Marketing applicants:
You will have the opportunity to be part of a mini learning experience around the chocolate industry.
This will involve a short talk, followed by a team activity to come up with some interesting ideas on how
our chocolate brand can be more innovative. This is also a great opportunity to meet others who have
applied to come on your course and have informal chats with staff and our student ambassadors.
Chocolate will of course be provided!

For Sport Business Management applicants:
You will consider ‘what’s in the news today?’ In this session, we will investigate issues published on a
major sports-news website for the day of your visit. Whatever the topic, we will appreciate why it has
happened, who is involved, and importantly what it means for those working in sport business
management. Reacting and adapting to real-world events is crucial, as is understanding the background
to the issues.
This will then be followed by time to ask our staff and students any questions you may have.

For Business Psychology students:


You will be able to attend an additional taster session on eye-tracking in psychology and
criminology at 12:20.

English Literature:
‘An Introduction to gothic literature’. In this session you will be exploring the world of gothic literature,
learning about the key concerns of the genre, and discovering how twentieth century authors made use
of earlier texts in their work.

Creative Writing:
‘How to Begin a Short Story or Poem’. The scariest moment for any writer is looking at the blank page. In
this session we'll show you how to calm your nerves and get writing! You'll be shown techniques for
gathering material and think about how you can use all your sense to bring your work to life. Bring along
a pen and paper and we will put your ideas into action.

An Introduction to the study of law: This session will delve into a number of different legal topics, which
you will have the opportunity to study at the University of Chichester. You will examine the contractual
obligations of those involved in sport, when it can be legal in criminal law for people to injure each other,
and the international mechanisms for safeguarding human rights. You will consider a range of issues,
such as, whether intellectual property law increases innovation or creates market monopolies, when we
can consent to serious harm to ourselves, and the disquiet caused by the locations chosen for high-
profile international events.

You'll experience two interactive sessions on these topics followed by a tour of our other sports facilities.

Thriving under Pressure: Sport Psychology in Action: You will participate in a golf putting
session to examine the role of stress in performance. We will consider questions such as 'how can we
work with an athlete to help them to see competition as a challenge rather than a threat?'

Exercise at High Altitude: How hypoxia (low oxygen availability) effects human
performance: This session will take place in our Environmental Chamber. This purpose-built facility
supports a range of teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities exploring thermal stress and
physiological function during exercise for health, occupational and sporting purposes. In this session, the
environmental chamber will be set to simulate an altitude of ~4000m to allow us to examine how
hypoxia (low oxygen availability) effects human performance.
