BD CytoRich™

non-gyn

BD CytoRich™ non-gyn – one solution for all your non-gynecologic

cytology needs. The easy to use process consistently provides
better slide quality, and for you, a higher degree of confidence.
BD CytoRich™ non-gyn process combines the fixative properties
of BD CytoRich™ preservatives and the discrete batch processing
capabilities of BD PrepStain™ Slide Processor, to provide you with
one solution for all your non-gynecologic cytology needs.

THE BD CYTORICH™ NON-GYN PROCESS:

a Consistently provides clear slides that are free of background debris1,2,3,4. This allows for better
evaluation of cytologic features and interpretation of specimens1

a Eliminates the necessity to create multiple slides for each specimen. One slide per specimen means
quicker processing and screening times2

a Compatible with specimens from any non-gynecologic body site

a Allows to perform adjunctive tests like cell blocks, molecular tests, immunocytology, flow cytometry, etc.2

General Non-Gyn Procedure
Including Urines, Body Cavity Fluids, FNAs and Respiratory Specimens

STEP 1: CONCENTRATE
4 Mix to homogenize sample
4 Assess for and remove clots,* particles* and mucus**
4 Transfer to 50 ml centrifuge tube
4 Centrifuge for 10 minutes @ 600 g
4 Pour off supernatant fluid
* Can be used for cell block procedures
** Follow standard laboratory procedures to homogenize and/or emulsify mucus

STEP 2: FIX
(This step may be omitted for prefixed samples, vortex samples for 15 +
_ 5 seconds
and proceed to the next step)

4 Add 5 – 10 ml of BD CytoRich™ Red or Blue Preservatives

4 Vortex and let sit for a minimum of 30 minutes
4 Centrifuge for 10 minutes @ 600 g
4 Decant supernatant and vortex

STEP 3: WASH
4 If no visible or small pellet is identified, add 6 mL of buffered DI H2O,
vortex and transfer entire contents to 12 mL tube
4 If moderate to large pellet is identified, transfer a representative
sample (1-5 drops) to 12 ml tube and add 10 ml water
4 Centrifuge for 5 minutes @ 600 g
4 Decant and vortex to homogenize sample

STEP 4: PROCESS
4 Load the labeled 12 ml centrifuge tubes onto BD PrepStain™ Slide Processor
for processing
4 Follow ‘Non-Gyn Slide Processing’ instructions in BD PrepStain™
Slide Processor Operators manual

The BD PrepStain™ Slide Processor improves workflow in your lab

by providing discrete batch processing and staining capabilities.
a Consistently prepares thin-layer slides that display better
slide quality than conventional slides1,2,3,4

a The discrete processing and staining capabilities eliminates

the necessity to triage high-risk specimens and reduces
cross contamination issues
