The One Touch Email System 101

2-1-2021

Timm’s Two Cents

 Email sucks but it’s a necessary evil.

 Being comfortable and confident in your system is key to career growth.
 THERE IS NOT A SINGLE SYSTEM THAT WORKS PERFECTLY, but hopefully some of this
works well for you.

The “One Touch Email” System

 The concept is simple, you “touch” any given email a minimal amount of times which
can simplify what you act on and how you manage your inbox/general
communication
 Your inbox becomes your “triage” or where you start to sort
 When done well you can have a legitimate 0 unread inbox everyday
o When reviewing your inbox look at everything as though there are only 3 options
1st Option – The emails needs response by you in a timely manner, so it
gets left in your inbox until that happens, shoot for same day.
2nd Option – The email can be filed and referenced as needed on an
upcoming meeting. IE – You don’t have to respond right away but its
important enough to check on soon.
3rd Option – Delete
 For option 2, its best to have folders set up based on how your weekly meeting
schedule may look. This way you can file them and refer to that email folder when
the meeting comes around. This is especially useful if you manage a team.
 Overall, if you are smart about applying this method to your inbox consistently, you
will start to be seen as omnipresent because you will be in such solid control of all
email communication.
