DEDICATION

To our furred, feathered, finned,

four-legged friends.

To the trees, mountains, and seas.

Praise for The Gentle Tarot:

“As I looked through the beautiful images she shared,

I felt the gentleness of this project, its groundedness
in compassion and connection to the land. For one,
we need more Indigenous-created decks. And also, it’s
just beautiful. I can tell it’s going to be a hit.”
-Beth Maiden, The Little Red Tarot

“Her artwork is, quite simply gorgeous and uses the

structure of Tarot to celebrate the themes of mental
health, self-care, and care for our planet, resulting
in a deck that feels both gentle and powerful. It
reminds me of the expansive beauty of Tarot, as a
place to uplift values, traditions, and guidance in a
lived-in way that everyday people can interact with
meaningfully. Talk about what we need more of in this
world.”
-Gina, Incandescent Tarot

“The Gentle Tarot captured my imagination (and my

heart) at first sight! The artwork is thoughtful, beautiful,
warm, and comforting. The love of the earth and her
creatures is palpable in every image - as well as the
fact that a portion of the proceeds from every deck
goes to environmental causes close to the creator’s
heart. Everything about the concept, the process, and
the deck itself comes from a place of deep love. The
Gentle Tarot is the warmth and compassion of a friend
that we need in uncertain, difficult times.”
-Meg, Tarot Nerds Instagram/Facebook group

“Mariza’s words on the relationship of this deck to our

ideal relationship with the planet is so refreshing. It’s
going to be great to use these cards that were created
with such clear and healing intentions!”

An Introduction to the Gentle Tarot

The Deck:
A classic 78 card deck with a Bonus Major
Arcana card, some of the cards are lightly
based on the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition,
however many of the illustrations are the result
of complete surrender to creative/spiritual
processes. Motifs and symbols, along with
colors, have been used throughout the deck to
make for easy recognition and to assist with
remembering the meanings of the cards.

Swords have been replaced with Thunder, and

Pentacles with Stones. Similarly, the court cards
are Seed, Root, Flower, and Harvest instead of
Page, Knight, Queen, and King – representative
of internal stages of growth with a direct con-
nection to nature, and a conscious distancing
from colonial symbols.

The cards have color coded rims to match their

element:.

Purple - Major Arcana - Spirit

Blue - Cups - Water
Red - Wands - Fire
Yellow - Thunder - Air
Green - Stones - Earth

The Connection:
Tarot is literally magic to me. It is a portal that
offers direct access, a conversation with your
8
guides. Readings lift you higher and push you
deeper. The relationship you form with your
Tarot practice feels like a relationship with a
very close friend. My Tarot friend has always
felt gentle, feminine, warm, and patient.

Ultimately, we are all held and supported, but

it is too often that we forget how connected we
are to this support. I would like the Gentle Tarot
to be a loving refuge of gentle reminders and
nudges with colorful art that lifts the spirit. The
figures are mostly nude because I hope when
we approach this deck we can strip free of our
reservations and expectations. Naked, the way
we were born, in full dialogue with our spirits’
source.

When I reference the womb in the Opening

Intention and elsewhere in this guidebook, I
would like to imagine that people of all genders
embrace the space for creation that we all
carry.

Note on references to “darkness” and a

perspective that may help you embrace it in a
positive way: I like to associate darkness with
emptiness, similar to the Buddhist tradition
where in emptiness and silence we find peace.
If something is empty, there is infinite potential
for what can fill it up. It is an opportunity to
create whatever you wish, free of restrictions to
expand and grow and become whatever your
heart desires. When we go fully into the dark,
9
we become the dark.

Darkness is associated with our infinite

potential to create and become. It can also be
in reference to the subconscious.
May the Gentle Tarot lift your spirit and fill you
with the love and support that you need.

Donation of a portion of proceeds:

Through the innocence and strength of the
animals I portray I attempt to spark familiarity,
respect, and humility. I believe we are one big
family – plants, four-legged, feathered, and
finned. Heal yourself, heal the earth.

A lot of the creatures I use in the deck are

representative of animals we have here in
Alaska and some of them are endangered
species. The world is changing very quickly and
I hope that we all do our part to prevent further
harm.

5% of proceeds are donated to environmental

conservation and advocacy efforts. Feel free to
visit thegentletarot.com for more information
on donations.

About the Artist:

Hi! My name is Mariza, the artist behind Mari

in the Sky. (@mariinthesky)

I am a nature-inspired illustrator and I create

hand-drawn art influenced by life in remote
Alaska. My art is touched throughout by my
indigenous spiritual background.

I draw much of my strength and inspiration

from our natural environment, as it has always
been my comfort and my guide. I strongly
believe that our mental health is very much
influenced by our connection or lack of
connection with our ecosystem.

When honoring and respecting our natural

environment we also honor our ancestors and
future generations. Through the use of specific
animals and by conveying the flow of energy
in the illustrations, the Gentle Tarot seeks to
11
reconnect and remind us of the unconditional
love found in that infinite cosmic space.
Therein, I believe, lies our healing and our
power.

I hope to illuminate the direct relationship we

have with our natural environment - allowing
us to feel supported by and also connected to
our responsibility towards its wellbeing.

It is my ultimate wish that this Gentle Tarot

deck support and encourage others to follow
their wildest dreams, as it has supported and
encouraged mine.

How To:
There are many ways to engage with Tarot
cards. It can be done alone or in the company
of others. Generally, an intention is set or a
question is asked. This can be done silently
to yourself or out loud. Feel free to shuffle the
deck. The cards can be spread out on a table.
Choose a card at random. Use the guidebook
to read about the card you chose. You can read
this yourself or have someone else read it.

Before I consult the cards, I like to center

myself with some deep breaths. If I have time or
energy to light a candle or burn some incense
I will. I like to set an intention and I can do
that while doing something small and sweet
for myself like centering in a way that feels
supportive
12
Using Tarot cards is a fun and healthy way to
engage with inner emotions and also a great
way to hold a meaningful conversation. It is
best if you can relax, be in the moment, and
allow your intuition and imagination flow. The
more free and open we are, the more insight
we can gather from our conversations with the
cards.

MAJOR ARCANA:
In the most basic sense, the 22 cards of the
Major Arcana of the Tarot are representative of
deeper, more evolutionary, and more spiritual
aspects of our stages of growth. Given this
more intimate and profound connection to the
life cycles of our evolutionary path, when these
cards come up in a reading, they bear slightly
more weight than the Minor Arcana cards.
If you notice that your spread has a lot of Major
Arcana cards, it may suggest that the issue that
you are reflecting on goes deeper than the
everyday and it might be asking you to offer
more reflection. The Majors are a nudge to dive
deeper.

MINOR ARCANA:
The Minor Arcana cards are a call to pay
attention to more surface and immediate
matters. They are helpful in exploring details
and for shining light onto perspectives that
influence the day-to-day rambling of life.

In this deck, Wands are represented by Alaskan

13
wormwood. Artemisia alaskana has been
used medicinally for thousands of years. It has
many uses, commonly used in steam baths
for respiratory aid and to soothe muscle/body
pain. It felt like a perfect fit for representing the
Wands suit.

Simple Spreads:

The most simple and easily approachable

spread for a beginner (and it is one of my
favorites) is the daily single card draw. I love
to draw in the morning, before the noise of the
day begins, but it is definitely welcome at any
time. It is a nice way to connect with yourself
and give space to issues rustling about in your
subconscious. If you do it earlier in the day, you
can allow the images and meanings to sit with
you throughout the rest of your day. Literally
any time you feel like having a little guidance
or a self-reflective conversation - pull a single
card and see where it goes.

The nice thing about the single card draw

is that you can be very free about choosing
additional cards for additional clarification or
for other questions/issues that come up.
Most importantly, relax, trust and give yourself
permission to be free and explore!
As with any session, feel free to draw additional
cards when you feel called to.

14
Three-card Spreads:

Past - Present - Future

Mind - Body - Spirit

My Desire - My Obstacle -
My Strength to Overcome

What Is In My power - What Is Not - What

Balances Me

Additional spreads and explanations are

available in the full-size version of this
guidebook, sold separately, printed in color
with more art and additional tools! We will
explore the significance of numerology,
relationships between the cards and more. :)

For now, this should be plenty to get you started

with your relationship with The Gentle Tarot.
Much love to you and your personal journey!

15
Opening Intention:

Release,
regeneration, new
beginnings, going
within and reaching
into the silent
depths, identifying
what no longer
serves me. Some
things may take
many moons, but I
can take a step now,
take a breath now
and release. Shake off the dry scaling
skin. Serpent shine, belly slithering on
the earth.

Mother, I hear your heartbeat. I release

the tension from my abdomen. I release
the tension from my womb.*

Today, I release the ideas that I have

of myself which no longer serve me.
I refuse to fill my body with worry or
stress. I have dreams and goals and the
only thing stopping me is myself.
I believe. I believe I can live the life
16
I dream of. I invoke more time for
__________ . I invite more time for
meaningful expression.

Each day, each moment is a blessing.

Every day I am reborn. One step at a
time - I let go of one layer at a time.
Today I release the fear. I will follow my
path with the same magnetic perfection
of the little salmon.

* May all beings, regardless of gender feel the

tender, sacred creativity of their womb-space.
17
Major Arcana

18
The Fool 0

I am the juvenile little salmon fish,

letting my body drift perfectly down
stream, towards the big unknown.

I surrender to the magnetic pull that

leads my five-inch fish body towards the
sea. I do not fear. I control my destiny.

Here is the start of a journey - There is

one direction and that is your direction.
The baby salmon does not hesitate. In
the same way that his DNA guides his
life, following your life-path is also in
yours.

Now is the time to be in the moment,

to be fearless, to change paths, to be
spontaneous, to trust. Uninhibited, you
follow your heart’s desires. The entire
universe supports you.

19
1 The Magician

Grounded and expansive from my

place of power, I believe in myself. I am
miracles manifesting. I know exactly
what I want - I am focused and clear.
This is a card of action.

The power to create is at your fingertips.

There is no divide between you and the
support of all the elements - earth, fire,
air, water. In the center of a cyclical,
sacred dance you embrace your full
potential.
The essence of the Magician’s power
comes from knowing our connection to
the whole.

Feel the wind on your skin, float on

water, root into the earth, watch your
friend fire unfold in a dance. Feel that
there are no boundaries. We are one,
we all are cosmic sparks of miraculous
inspiration.

20
The High Priestess 2

I embody the transcendent nature of

the Owl, who in the quiet depth of
night sees in the dark. I travel fluidly
between exterior and interior realms. I
see deeper meaning and connections
clearly.

The High Priestess presents us with

a meditation of what is going on
underneath, the hidden stories that
direct our actions and responses. This
is a place of potential, magic, and
deep healing. Between the seen and
the unseen is where we connect more
deeply with our purpose and our soul.

This card may be gently asking you

to take a closer look, take a step back
into non-action. Feel the mystery and
embrace the shadow. Listen. Wait. What
do you hear?

21
3 The Empress

Here we take a moment to close our

eyes and feel the magnetic connection
we have with our earth. The same
way the caribou connects to the
environment around her, so do you.

This card reminds us of how fertile our

subconscious ideas are, how divine our
connection is, and of the abundance
within us. It also directs us towards
acknowledging nourishment and
bounty, both physical and spiritual.

Are you feeling nourished enough?

You are worthy, you deserve care and
comfort. It is never too late to start
loving and treating yourself. Allow
yourself to feel abundance; Abundance
of body, mind, and spirit.

22
The Emperor 4

Our beloved, majestic sea lion sits

confidently on his throne.

A certain amount of structure is

necessary for our well being. The
Emperor card may be asking if you
are in balance or if you need a little
more structure. Do you have proper
boundaries in your physical and mental
space?

This card may also be asking you to

examine where you might cultivate
more balance in your life. Or, perhaps
you have too much structure? There are
two sides to every coin - the same is
true here.

If you have issues with authority, take a

moment and meditate on the root of the
reaction and assess what is and what is
not in your control.

23
5 The Hierophant

Seabirds are ancient. The wisdom in

their movement and in their eyes is
older than the millennia countable on
our fingertips. Here we observe the
red-faced cormorant, attentive and alert
in the sunlight. Only until we honor our
ancients, can we truly know who we
are and pursue a life we love.

This card guides us to dig deeper,

connect, and embrace the wisdom of
the ages that is dormant within us. This
potent card asks us to remember our
worth by studying or reconnecting with
our past. Who has contributed to who
you are, both physically in this life and
before you arrived?

24
The Lovers 6

Like a half moon with half light and

half darkness, or two butterflies in
communion, one resting and one
fluttering in the air - the Lovers card
brings us harmonizing dualities.

This card summons the reciprocal

dynamics of relationships. This can
be a connection with someone, with
yourself, with a group, with ideas, or
any other relationship. Here we take a
moment to reflect on the blending of
energies and of deeper understanding.

While you hold your space, it is

important to truly know your space, to
trust your heart, and to know how to be
rooted in it.
This is a reminder to listen to your
truth and feel grounded in your values.
Alignment with your values brings you
closer to wholeness.

25
7 The Chariot

This card is about remembering that

success not only follows clear guided
action, but also, more importantly,
follows trusting the precise moment for
action.

Like the water of a river that twists and

turns, constantly flowing, our path is in
contact flux. The grizzly stands still in
the water’s flow. Steadily, she waits to
feel the push of water from the salmon
swimming upstream. She waits, then
strikes when the moment is right.

This Kodiak grizzly bear is the matriarch

of a busy, heavily bear-populated
salmon river. She has refined her skills
to the point where she is able to swoop
in and pull out two fish in one bite. Her
dedication and mastery are clear and
her actions are carried out with ease.

26
Strength 8

Oh mystic humpback whale, let us

learn from you, gentle giant, with your
resilience and majestic grace.

When you connect deeply with the

strength depicted here, you are able to
face challenges with a silent power. The
rainbow is a visual representation of
the unconditional support and fortitude
within you.

This card guides you to be centered in

a way that allows you to move through
the waters of life with connection to a
deeper understanding. Instead of rash
reactions, you sit wholeheartedly with
the lessons before you and you choose
internal growth over external waste of
energy.

27
9 The Hermit

Inside The Hermit’s den, the cosmos

are etched on the walls. Communion
of the cosmos and earth energy, fluid,
all within. It is not just stars that we are
looking at when we gaze into outer
space - we are also those stars.

The Hermit invites you to give yourself

the personal space you need to go
inward, remember the connection and
unconditional love.

Release imposed beliefs of guilt for

taking time for you. Take a long bath, sit
with a candle, read, write, remember.
Much can come from retreating and
looking within. Enjoy the internal sparks
that come from it.

28
The Wheel of Fortune 10

Embrace this moment, let the gifts of the

universe rain down upon you. Without
fear, receive, and know that you are on
the right path.

The Wheel of Fortune reminds us

that there are no coincidences.
Every connection is part of a larger
web, all spokes of this divine wheel,
each moment dependent on another
moment.

The flowers don’t hesitate to bloom and

neither should we.

Every moment is the opportunity for a

new beginning, a shedding and a birth.

29
11 Justice

What seeds have you sown? What

dreams will you grow? The Justice card
reminds us of the choices we have. All
of them, large and small, help shape
our reality. The power is in your hands.

It’s tough to do what feels right in a

world that often forces you into a box.
If there is a decision or decisions in
your life at the moment, give yourself
the patience and loving care that you
deserve to move with ease and trust.

The Justice card brings us an

opportunity to reflect on cause and
effect. If something in your past is
holding you back, learn to embrace
the lessons and forgive yourself. Every
moment is a gift and an opportunity.

You are the creator of your beautiful

universe. Grow them seeds and watch
how fruitful they can be!!

30
The Hanging Woman 12

Trust and surrender. Be vulnerable and

open to giving up control.

The moon phases in the background are

there to remind you that even nature
works in cycles. It is totally okay to
stop and rest, to release yourself from
the pressure to act or do. The universe
will support you, maybe even more
so because you let up the struggle to
control. Surrender like you did when
you were a child on that swing.

Find your own ways to impart self care

and give yourself the nourishment you
need, even if that just means stopping
everything and simply breathing.

31
13 Death

More than anything else, this is a card

of freedom. It portrays the end of a
cycle: the shedding, a necessary letting
go.

Change and growth are constant, but

growth can only reach its full form
when we actively allow it. Sometimes
this means embracing endings, or
listening to a part of us that is asking
to be freed. If you are resisting change,
support yourself and give yourself the
space you need.

Let go of that tight rigid shell, little

hermit crab - because even if you can’t
see or imagine it, there is a comfy shell
that is more vibrant and more “you” just
waiting for you to crawl on in.

32
Temperance 14

Here we see a person balancing over

a running stream. Their intention is as
calm as the birds and water around
them. The three salmon swimming
toward them in the stream represent the
mind, body, and spirit.

This card may be asking you to listen.

Check in to see if your body, mind, and
spirit are in balance, what do you need?

Balance is key to having clear thoughts

and clear ears for listening to our heart’s
pull. Temperance, like moderation,
inspires us to find the quiet strength of
our middle-ground to best direct our
actions, thoughts, and words.

33
15 The Devil

This card asks you to take a good look

at what is holding you down. Whatever
the chain is dragging, it is heavy. The
repeated red footprints represent the
repetitive or addictive tendencies that
keep us down. The muscular physique
of the figure represents an unhealthy tie
to materialism and façade.

The Devil card is one of my favorite

cards because it is direct in asking:
What denies me my freedom? What
chains have I created for myself?

Make a safe space for yourself to

confront these issues. There is no
judgment here, only love. We all share
different versions of the same obstacles.
Know that you are held and loved for
every part of who you are.

34
The Tower 16

You sit atop your own coals, having

burned what you no longer need. The
island is wind-blown, the tall grass
sways, tsunami waves crash at its sides
and flames rise. You sit in a meditative
pose, holding the fire, actively feeding
it. Sometimes it takes drastic change
to open up the pathways of needed
growth. Let the lightning illuminate you
– know it. Embrace the thunder as it
booms truth into your heart.

Amidst the chaos, there is deep

knowing, humility and trust. This calm
radiates from your facial expression.
The purple sky and cosmos visible
even during a storm are a reminder of
the spirit realm always present in our
support. The rainbow is the magic that
links us to our guides and to our full
potential. This is a moment of rebirth
and renewal.

35
17 The Star

One foot rests firmly supported by the

earth and the other stands on water
supported by complete faith. The
meteor shower above and reflected
below reminds us of the cosmic
mysteries all around us and of how held
we are, if we stop and listen.

Surrounded by starlight, enveloped in

its love, you are home. Whether you
are presently going through challenging
times or if you have recently surpassed
them, the Star card brings you back to
a safe place within yourself. You are
taken care of, you are supported. Your
brilliance matches that of the sky.

36
The Moon 18

Alone in the water of your

subconscious, you are called forth by
The Moon to surrender your veil and
submerge the ego. Let go. The Moon is
calling you to feel.

When guided by the Moon, there may

be uncomfortable things or matters
that you have ignored, tugging for your
attention.

Just feel her warm, loving rays as they

soak into the water around you and
directly into your heart. You are loved,
and you are in the right place at the
right time.

If you have been avoiding a calling to

tend to deeper feelings or issues that
confuse your spirit, the time has come
to give it a try. No stress– be easy on
yourself.

37
19 The Sun

The Sun’s light brings forth the growth

of the wildflowers, and it provides for
your growth as well. Soak in the vigor
and dance in it.

Lupines in the foreground rise to greet

the sun while cotton flowers dance and
sway in the background, a celebratory
circle of life and color, each participat-
ing and contributing their unique spirit.
The two figures in the center of the
flower circle can be seen either as two
separate people or as a reflection of you
with yourself.

Abundance is readily available through

gratitude and raw joy. Go forth and
bloom!

38
Judgement 20

When you can take in everything that

is and has been your life, accept and
embrace it ALL, you are reborn.

It is time to dig deep into those hidden,

dusty corners and coax the frightened
little one out into the light. Love them.
Embrace without judgment whatever
shame or guilt has been stored away.
The good healthy experiences, along
with the rough, hurtful ones - each
experience makes up who we are.

Like this snake has freshly shed her

skin, rise up to meet your higher self.
Fulfill the promise you made to yourself
upon arrival to this earth, follow your
true vocation. You know that you are
ready to follow your truth!

39
21 The World

In harmony and in union with the world

around me - I am here, I am whole.
I am unstoppable life-force energy
creating the inner and outer world that
I desire.

Take a moment to savor your energized

spirit. There are fruitful beginnings at
this journey’s end. What is next? What
have you been working towards? There
is no moment better than this moment.

Like the ocean tides that rise and fall,

you know the rhythm and you know
your power.

If you have been doubtful or hesitant,

the universe is clear in supporting your
next step. All it takes is for you to love
you, and you are already there!

40
The Unseen 22

If The Unseen appears for you, this

may be a good time to honor those
dimensions beyond the physical.

The love swirls around us and guides

us daily if we listen. It is what fills our
heart with desire, what silently pushes
us home towards our true selves. It
wants nothing more than our happiness.
This is home. This is true love.

The flower has wings instead of petals

and its roots are not tied to earth,
reminding us of fluidity as the base of
all energy. The only constant in life is
change.

Let yourself fall into the loving arms of

this colorful darkness, its blood is your
blood - its magic is your magic. You are
infinite, divine, One.

41
Cups

42
Ace of Cups 1

This cup is overflowing with life-giving

water, our Source. It is being offered to
you with unconditional love. You are
encouraged to remember the power
of intuition and the potency of being
in touch with your feelings. This card
invites you to open up and allow
yourself to be led by your heart.

Aces are full of “Yes!” energy and

reassurance. Make sure to give yourself
time to embrace the energy moving in.

With an open heart, enjoy the flow of

and remember that you are always held,
as lovingly as this cup is held, and that
you are both the water and the cup.

43
2 Two of Cups

Giving and receiving. Connection and

sacred space, created by two.

The drops of water falling towards

the forehead are representative of
intellectual and spiritual awakening.
The cups and water are symbols for
the gentle pouring and exchange of
emotions.

The flower is intertwined between the

two, representing the love and growth
that occurs when two merge.

This bonding is depicted like a mirror to

represent the calm, healthy reciprocity
of a loving union, and also a sound
relationship with the self. Don’t be
afraid to be yourself.

44
Three of Cups 3

Together, all filled up.

There is magic when two join together,

but where there are three (or more) a
circle is formed. That circle - electric,
spiraling inward and outward - is a
powerful well of cosmic energy - we
can heal, we can cry, laugh, dance, and
we can be seen.

The rainbows around their waists are

representative of the release of tension
from the solar plexus area, where we
store stress and fear. Sharing together,
brings movement to stagnant energy.

This can be among friends, within

yourself, with your community, or in
relation to the natural environment
around you. How is the health of
your relationships? Are you in need
of emotional support or do you have
support to offer? This card also reminds
us to simply be joyful, playful, and
enthusiastic about life.
45
4 Four of Cups

I make myself invisible to go within. As

long as you don’t go too far my love,
remember that rain makes rainbows.

The Four of Cups is a meditation on

apathy and being too much in your own
head. When our feelings get to be too
much, we disengage.

It is okay to become invisible for a

while. There is much to learn from
being alone and going within. But the
Four of Cups also yields caution: Have
you gone too far down a road of self-
absorption? Are you missing out on the
fresh fruits around you? What aspects of
your life are you running from?

Stop to smell the flowers. Let the zing

of a fresh berry bring you back to your
center. Know that you are loved.

46
Five of Cups 5

I acknowledge my pain - I thank it for

the lessons of love and forgiveness that
it brings me.

Grief, regret, and loss are not feelings

that process quickly. They can take
days, years, lifetimes. All suffering
comes from grasping. Be easy on your-
self. Go where you need to go to really
feel and acknowledge your wounds;
then breathe and surrender.

Know that you have done the best that

you could, and that is enough. Forgive
yourself. Be gentle with your heart.
There are no mistakes in life. Even
events that hurt have a purpose and
an opportunity to show us more about
ourselves.

If you can listen, you will hear the

whispers of loving-kindness amidst the
throbs of an aching heart.

47
6 Six of Cups

Here we invite innocence and simple

pleasures into our life. By connecting
with our inner child, we re-open a love
stream with our roots and return to our
Source, the infinite love-space from
which we came, fulfilled by the air we
breathe and the breeze on our skin.

Surrender yourself to the elements.

Feel the earth under you; let cold water
spark life into your being. Enjoying
experiences like these, that are literal-
ly timeless to human history – is your
birthright. This is a direct connection to
your ancestors. There is grounding in
the simplicity. Sacred healing waters!

Thankful for fresh air and thankful to

be here. I hope we all allow ourselves
the energy of this card, even if it’s in a
single skip added to our step.

48
Seven of Cups 7

Instead of being scattered or spread too

thin, I am ready to choose and go all in.

Choices, choices, thinking, over-think-

ing. What if you remembered that
anything is possible? Which direction
pulls your heart the most? It’s easy to be
spread too thin or to be too distracted to
really root and decide.

The beautiful thing is that you have

choices. The Seven of Cups is a card
about focusing your intent instead of
being distracted or disillusioned. The
little flame that you look at with hope,
fear, and wonder is a simple reflection.
You are already the flame that you want
to be.

49
8 Eight of Cups

Endings, getting yourself out of a

situation, and following your truth, the
end of a cycle.

Sometimes we are so entangled in

unhealthy relationships (with people,
jobs, substances, ways of being) that
we are blinded and we get used to the
pain.

Although you are broken, you are

strong because you move forward. You
do not waste the life-giving water in
that last cup, you drink it for strength as
you move towards a new horizon. Your
old path is charcoaled from already
burning away, yet your feet are clean
and unscathed.

We will never be stripped of our

resilience, even if we feel weak and
incapable, drink that sip of sacred water
and walk.

50
Nine of Cups 9

It is time to kick your legs up, relax, and

enjoy the sensual pleasures of being
alive!
Soak in the grass, sunshine, and rain!
Connect with the earth.

The Nine says: be fluid, like the

Cups element - water, and let your
imagination roam free. The Nine of
Cups is also commonly known as a
“wish card” - Voice your wish. You are
wholly supported. Shine on my love!

Pleasures unfold in the present moment

- enjoy yourself. Satisfy your senses.
Forget about time and responsibilities.
Rest and leisure are essential for growth.

51
10 Ten of Cups

I am safe. I am secure. I have everything

that I need. I am home.

Like the ptarmigan, we too can feel one

with all of creation. There is no divide.
Rejoice in the love that is found here!
You are made of stardust. You are home.
We are all divine.

Are you feeling your connection to

the whole? What does spiritual and
emotional home look like to you? What
does happiness and being complete feel
like? Is your definition of home truly
yours or is it influenced by others?

If you are already feeling complete

and connected, your internal
accomplishments are seen and
acknowledged.

Here’s to filling up our rainbow cups!

52
Seed of Cups 11

The energy here is lively, curious, and

eager for adventures of heart and soul.
The Seed of Cups easily falls in love - be
it with a partner, an idea, with them-
selves, or the world around them.

We invite fresh movement into our sa-

cred space. We are encouraged to freely
engage with our feelings.

If you are going through a chapter

heavily influenced by heart and soul
work, the Seed of Cups reminds you to
take things lightly. Be playful with your
interactions.

Be inspired by their enthusiastic spark.

Let their eagerness to explore guide
you.

53
12 Root of Cups

I am devout and in touch with my

intuition. I follow my heart with
dedication and care.

The Root is passionate in a way that is

more grounded than the flighty passion
of the Seed. The Root of Cups reminds
us to love completely, to connect with
the spirit world and with our intuition in
a way that takes us beyond the physical.
Let your imagination and heart explore
more profound meaning in your life and
in your relationships.

The salmon is ancient. Their willpower

is unmatchable. Their drive is divine,
just like yours.

54
Flower of Cups 13

I navigate life with refined attunement

to myself and others.

Brought to us by the graceful sandhill

crane, our Flower of Cups represents
thorough connection with our intuition.
She inspires us to see the ambiguities
of a situation with clarity. This gives us
access to deeper connection with the
subconscious and the unseen.

Our Flower of Cups reminds us that

we are capable of getting through the
tough times and doing the spiritual
work necessary for emotional freedom.
Connection to sacred space allows us to
fully trust and follow our heart.

55
14 Harvest of Cups

No matter the cliffs or mountain tops,

internally we know the way, and we
are supported. The loving assurance in
Harvest’s eyes reconnects us with the
confidence and emotional maturity that
is already present within us.

With the Harvest of Cups we sit with

wisdom and remember our innate
connection to subtle energies. We have
confidence and a dignified sense of self.

This card can also represent struggling

for too much control, too much
precision. It is important to maintain
humility and be open to continual
learning.

56
Wands

57
1 Ace of Wands

Ride the momentous spark of this

Ace of Wands and own your courage,
enthusiasm, and inspiration.

Your hand already holds the magic to

manifest. Listen to the cosmos, where
this strength is birthed – what does
the energy inside of you have to say?
You are so powerful and capable, dear
heart. The fire within you demands
recognition, and as an act of love, you
listen.

What gifts do you wish to share with

the world? No one else sees the world
the way you do. This is your opportunity
to share your authentic self.

The flame is already yours. Feel it. Run

with it.

58
Two of Wands 2

I leave doubt behind and go forth on

the unbeaten path.

Are you allowing yourself to feel your

greatness? Do you realize how much
power you have? The Two of Wands
calls us to follow our truth.

It is also okay to not feel your power;

it is part of the journey to forget. Be
kind and patient with yourself. Stop
when you want to. Rest when you want
to. This too is engaging your personal
power - your power to decide what is
best for you in each moment.

May we all feel the bold, invigorating

strength of the two wands in our hands.

59
3 Three of Wands

Now that I am on my path and the

beating of my heart guides me, I make
sure to rise above for the best vantage
point, so that my path continues to stay
in alignment with who I am.

There is no limit to where you can take

yourself. Sometimes we get stuck on
the islands of our mind. At the horizon,
where vision blurs into infinity, we have
the freedom to imagine any reality.

What do you seek? What is calling you?

Have you devised a way to get there?

60
Four of Wands 4

Too often we forget to acknowledge

where we are, where we have come
from, and the simple miracle of being
alive. Taking the time to honor our
existence and to create joy for our
beautiful, beating heart is important for
our grounding.

If we can celebrate the small things,

the whole of life gets brighter and more
expansive. You are worthy!

Take up your space! We are powerful

and capable of so much! Remember
your strength. And remember to rejoice
in love for your beautiful self.

61
5 Five of Wands

I am thankful for my teachers as they

arise. They are blessings in disguise.

Clashing of energies. There may be a

struggle, internal within yourself or
external involving others that seeks
attention. Disharmony will lead us to
harmony if we approach it consciously
with patience and love.

Take care of your heart and of your

space. Boundaries are healthy; do not
hesitate to give yourself the space you
need.

Tolerance will help your persistence. Be

gentle with yourself.

62
Six of Wands 6

The Six of Wands reminds us to feel

joy. It asks us to make time and space
for release - give yourself the room to
breathe in your excellence and feel
gratitude for your faithful persistence.

It is so important to love yourself,

to shower yourself with kindness
and a healthy amount of pride for
where you are now, even if it’s simply
celebrating still being here - breathing,
feeling, leading yourself towards
wholeness.

If there is a chance that you are feeling

too much pride, remember that no one
reaches their goals on their own. Your
entire bloodline has helped lay down
the footsteps that spark you. We are all
part of the same living organism. Being
humble is powerful.

63
7 Seven of Wands

I know what I stand for. I know how to

protect it. I am fire.

The Seven of Wands orchestrates the

fire and is not afraid to feed it, hence
the large stick in their hand. Protect
your heart, reclaim the connection that
was stolen.

Remember that you are allowed to say

“No!” No, no, no, no, no. It is your
life and your heart. You are allowed to
protect it.

It is healthy to engage in these

conversations within yourself and
within your community. Allow that fire
of feelings to flow freely. Command
your energy and cast it with integrity
where it needs to be - this is called
conviction and it is healthy. You know
when something is right or wrong.
Don’t fear fighting for it.

You are powerful. Together we can

change the ways of the world.
64
Eight of Wands 8

I am receptive to active energies within

and around me. I am ready for change.

The Eight of Wands prompts us to tune

in and connect so that we recognize
opportune moments for action.

With clarity of mind and heart, you

more easily make your own way.
Remove the layers that blur your vision
and remove yourself from situations that
demand too much. It is also a reminder
of the power of clear communication.

65
9 Nine of Wands

Although this path is long and winding,

my focus remains clear.

Slowly but surely, I climb the mountains

on my path and I do so with diligent
protection of my sacred space.

Like the lynx in the meadow with her

resolute stature and ease, I safeguard
my heart and my body. The length of
this journey does not discourage me.
I am determined and I know this path
was made just for me.

Remember that there is refuge in nature.

If you need a recharge, bring yourself
home.

66
Ten of Wands 10

I release all guilt that arises from

lessening my load. Earth Mother, feel
my fire that is the same as your fire.

There is no better moment than now

to learn to say No. Too often we take
on way too much. For the sake of our
health and the wellbeing of the world
around us - it is most important to stop
and listen to our bodies. Are you overly
stressed? Is your ethereal backpack
nice and roomy or full?? We can run
ourselves into the ground. Easily. The
pressure is real, the fatigue is real. Find
your pace, love your center.

Thank yourself for arriving to this point

on the path. You have carried your load
with love, and now it is time to love
yourself. Release that heavy flame, no
fear, the same fire has always been
inside of you - sparking your footsteps
towards inner harmony and freedom.

67
11 Seed of Wands

I choose playfulness and curiosity. My

world expands as I allow myself to
expand.

I am the spotted seal, ready to lead the

way. My creative passion is contagious.
Let us swim together, somewhere new –
let us play.

Jump in wholeheartedly. Dismiss doubt

and choose freedom. If you have been
waiting to take the plunge, the Seed of
Wands is right there with you, ready to
go.

If these energies are lacking in your

life, take a moment to look at how cute
this seal’s plump, shiny belly is and
forget that you ever lacked the spirit of
adventure.

To chasing our dreams! Wild and free!

68
Root of Wands 12

You are capable of creating and

remastering the energy around you. This
is a call to bring focus and a clear path
to your goals and desires.

The Root of Wands is confident,

energetic, and full of life. Could you
benefit from some of this ermine
energy?

If you have been feeling stuck, take a
risk. If you have been working too hard,
give yourself a healthy break. If you
have been sluggish, treat yourself to
some fresh air.

Or is your over self-assurance causing
harm? The Root of Wands may be
asking you to take a small step back
so that you can listen to the energies
around you, turn in and tune up.

69
13 Flower of Wands

I am a master of creative confidence

and inward focus. I make my own way
and I thrive.

Our Flower of Wands, the Raven,

represents a thirst and passion for life
that has matured beyond the Root’s
level of dedication and drive.

We reach a state of mastery that inspires

us to explore and reveal more of
ourselves. Thriving, we peel back layers
to get closer to our whole selves. We
can nourish both our passion and our
need to develop a sense of self.

Be who you are, fearlessly and

unapologetically.

70
Harvest of Wands 14

With clear vision of which steps to take,

and the ready initiative to make things
happen, our Harvest of Wands leads the
pack by way of inspiration.

The energy of our Harvest of Wands

is one of leadership and enthusiastic
ingenuity.

This is confidence that adds spark to our

step as we walk towards risk, towards
a place where the potential for greater
opportunity exists. It is knowing the
depth of our power to proceed without
doubt.

71
Thunder

72
Ace of Thunder 1

Hands and heart open, ready to receive

with clarity and fortitude.

The lightning bolt has a clear

destination and you are perfectly
aligned to receive the opportunity that
it brings.

The Ace of Thunder reminds us of the

power of sound judgement, honesty,
and proceeding objectively.

Your inner truth is valid and deserving

of expression. Say what you think, bring
it into the light. Trust your instincts and
trust your strength, both intellectual and
spiritual.

73
2 Two of Thunder

I am at home with myself. I am

supported by the world around me. I
will take the time I need to listen. This
card is one of introspection. Listen and
trust, your heart knows best and only
good things come from following it.

It reminds us of the importance
of looking within, silencing the
unnecessary distractions and tuning into
what we want to keep in our sphere
and what we can let go of. It could be
simple or complex, but going within is
necessary.

Underwater you are enveloped in that
comforting womb-silence. The critters
there are playful and accepting of your
presence. Our natural environment
seeks ecological harmony, just as our
bodies seek spiritual harmony.

74
Three of Thunder 3

Thunder, lightning – let it lighten up

your heart space. No matter the pain,
you are made of cosmos and you will
overcome. Rainbows stem from the
lightning bolts.

In life, we often embody confusion,

loss, and sorrow from heartbreak.
We also transmute and live out the
pain and suffering which has been
carried on from womb to womb across
generations.

The face has an expression of grounded

acceptance even in the processing of
pain; a knowing that they are at once
the thunder, rainbow, and rain. May the
fresh storm wash over your old wounds,
cleansing them, bringing you closer to
healing. May you remember your worth
during trying times.

75
4 Four of Thunder

Permission to relax - ease your mind.

Even lightning bolts need a break.

This is a time for regeneration, taking a

step back and gathering yourself.

In the Four of Thunder, the rainbow

supports your rest. The warm wind
is silent, soothing company. You are
supported in your relaxation. It is
healthy to give yourself space for
processing and preparing for the next
step.

If you find yourself doing too much or

going too fast, please do less. There is
power in stillness and there is strength
in stepping back.

76
Five of Thunder 5

Striving to climb to the top of the ridge,

you realize that reaching the peak is not
actually something that you really need.
Fox friend helps take your lightning bolt
offering to the top.

Too often we push ourselves too hard

for too long. We stay in relationships
(interpersonal or professional) when we
know we should leave, or we refuse to
surrender in an internal fight.

Please take a moment to stop and feel.
Does it feel better to stop where you
are? No need to climb to the tippity top
of this mountain, maybe you are just
fine where you are and your path has
other plans for you, another destination.

77
6 Six of Thunder

The Six of Thunder brings our attention

to movement and embracing internal
processes that come with change.
Also known as a travel card, the Six
of Thunder may introduce ideas or
encourage plans for changing your
space, taking a trip, or entering a new
frame of mind.

Similar to the Rider-Waite-Smith version

of this card, where a figure is ferried
from unsettled waters to a clearer,
more serene scene, here our dear
heart is ferried, not on a boat, but on
a humpback whale, reminding us that
we are supported and not alone on this
journey.

Feel the solace and power of this

massive, majestic, finned relative as you
glide through the moonlight into new
waters.

78
Seven of Thunder 7

The lynx looks back, taking a pause

in their step, as if sensing something
unbalanced behind them. The lightning
bolts represent how attuned they are to
their surroundings.

The ability to perceive deception is

essential for protecting our sacred
space and for staying focused on our
path. Sometimes deceit is not easy to
see, when it disguises itself with old
narratives, traumas, or patterns from
our past that can be difficult for us to
discern.

This card is about questioning

authenticity and setting up boundaries
to make sure we only allow deserving
energies into our space.

79
8 Eight of Thunder

I am completely free. I have choices

and I wield the power to decide.

The Gentle Tarot emphasizes that being

imprisoned in our own thoughts is
directly connected to the freedom that
awaits just around the corner if we do
the work to free our minds. No matter
how stuck you may feel, you do have
power and choices.

Stay wild my child, nothing can hold

you back. You are birthed from magic,
you are forever magic. Your mind is
powerful, even the oldest of patterns
can be retrained out. Choose new
beginnings, choose freedom.

80
Nine of Thunder 9

This card acknowledges your sleepless

struggle and invites you to entertain
a new perspective. Sometimes the
repetitive, negative thoughts are
inspired by habit, sometimes they are
influenced by how physically exhausted
you are. It is helpful to step out from
the pit and observe in a third-person
perspective to better understand how
you can pull ourselves out when you
need to.

Be gentle with yourself. Grief and regret

are not simple. There are things that we
may never fully understand, and that is
okay. Feel the feelings and cry the tears,
but come back to center when you are
done. You are pure love.

81
10 Ten of Thunder

Rock bottom is where I remembered my

magic.

Their leg rests on rainbows, it is the

light in the dark, the magic that sets
them apart. From the depths, there is
nowhere to go but up. You scale the
wall by stepping on the lessons you
have learned. The challenges that
brought you here are the very guides
that will allow you to rise above.

Know that no matter what you are in

the right place at the right time. If you
find yourself feeling powerless and
like things can’t get any worse, take
a step back. Sometimes you need to
start slowly to reach your grounding.
It takes inner strength and self love to
remember your worth and regain your
power. Trust that the hardest lessons are
here to help you grow. The universe and
your spirit guides are supporting you
completely. We believe in you.

82
Seed of Thunder 11

At home in the Air element, the

Arctic Fox is fully engaged. Our Seed
bounds into the snow, in touch with
their senses, trying and testing new
techniques.

We are driven by our desire to

understand, as the more we know
of the world and the realms around
us, the more aware we become. This
can be an opportunity for expressing
yourself differently - finding new ways
of vocalizing your truth, desires, and
needs.

This card encourages you to expand

your mind and approach things with
wonder. It reminds you to maintain
objectivity and fairness in your
interactions. Since this is the Seed, the
first stage of growth, there is an ever-full
well of energy and potential that offers
to add spirit and vivacity to your step.

83
12 Root of Thunder

Albatross with your endless flight and

your life lived out at sea - you know
your Truth, enlighten me.

This card seeks to inspire direct action,

drive, and clarity with our words.
However, if we listen closely, our Root
does not exude urgency or pushing
too hard. Rather, they tell us of their
satisfaction in forward movement, when
the pieces within them are aligned.

If you need a little help in finding

balance, take a long flight with
albatross. With no land in sight for days,
feel their confidence and accuracy run
through your body. No need to flap
your wings while you glide on wind
currents with total ease.

84
Flower of Thunder 13

The natural state of my mind is clarity. I

soar with the wings of my true heart.

With lightning bolts of clarity in her

talons, our Flower of Thunder has
proven superior to the storms that have
challenged her.

From Seed, where you took your

first leap, to Root, where you trained
inwardly, you now emerge as Flower,
where you bloom and soar, shedding
light and clear direction. Your
insightfulness and straightforward
expression open you to a new level of
independence. The power of word and
mind aligned, coupled with a clear
heart, is as fluid as the eagle’s flight.

85
14 Harvest of Thunder

I honor my energy and my time

by choosing honesty and clear
communication.

Here in this serene, sunlit haven of

wildflowers and forest shadows, we
find our Harvest of Thunder: the big,
beautiful, powerful moose. This space is
as peaceful as Harvest’s mind.

Step into this quiet space where rational

thought and clear decision making
allow you to put aside the noise. When
you decide to honor your energy and
prioritize integrity, you are able to rest
more and focus on the things that truly
matter to you.

86
Stones

87
1 Ace of Stones

I invite security and abundance into my

life.

The Ace of Stones symbolizes

opportunity in the material realm. The
world is at your fingertips. You are fully
capable of actualizing your desires.

The power of the Ace is in the potential.

Whatever is growing here has roots
now. It is up to you to welcome the
sprout into the world. Will you take the
opportunity? So much of the medicine
of the Ace is in the “yes.”

You are the creator of your story. Your

energy contributes to the wellness of
the world. Your voice is valid. Your soul
is worthy.

88
Two of Stones 2

When life becomes too rigid, bend.

The Two of Stones reminds us of how

valuable it is to be flexible. When we
adapt, we cultivate more freedom
to move through obstacles, and we
become more sure in our footing.
This kind of fluidity allows us to better
visualize possibility over hindrances.
When we surrender control, we gain
opportunity.

The Two of Stones shows us how to

invite the energies of resilience and
fluidity in the midst of adversity. The
ever-grounded trust and harmony
that shines through here is a result of
centeredness.

You might have to pivot and fall into

greater trust. Trust births happiness;
happiness brings wholeness.

89
3 Three of Stones

Is there anything more beautiful than

co-creation? Coming together, we
mobilize ethereal powers and engage
in an age-old exchange of moving spirit
into the physical. This card affirms: you
are supported in your efforts. Teamwork
is sacred.

The figures are fully at home and in

harmony with the Earth element – their
legs, abdomens, and backs are lovingly
covered in fresh mud. Their feet are
rooted through an umbilical-cord-like
connection to the earth. A volcano is
active, symbolizing creation and the
birth of a new earth.

In this card we see how working

together sparks creative energy from our
chests and from our hands as we draw
and offer vitality to and from the center
of the earth.

90
Four of Stones 4

I protect my body, my space, and

my identity. The Four of Stones
contemplates boundaries.

Do you feel safe in your emotional and

mental space? Am I in need of extra
buffers to protect myself? Who we are,
what is important to us, and what we
choose to believe in should not be
dictated by another person, by society,
or by our families. Our sense of self is
sacred, and feeling safe with ourselves
is integral to our experience on this
earth. This most often means protecting
who we are and learning to manage
what energy enters our sphere and what
energy is kept out.

The challenges and the hard feelings

teach us exactly what we need to define
our boundaries and to define who we
are.

91
5 Five of Stones

The Five of Stones provides space for

exploring abandonment, and offers to
witness your pain. Even though these
moments may feel alienating, you are
part of a bigger web and you are not
alone in your suffering.

We often bury our wounds, but they

will rise again if we don’t honor
ourselves with enough space and
support to listen and heal. Give your
struggle some space to move. It may be
a perfect time to offer yourself the love,
nutrition, and blood circulation that you
need. One breath at a time, one step at
a time. Be gentle with yourself.

The plastic bags floating in the water

are a turtle’s number one killer.
Disadvantaged, we take a moment to
witness their plight. The web supports
me and I support the web. I remember
my connection to the whole.

92
Six of Stones 6

I choose harmony and balance because

I deserve healthy relationships.

Giving and receiving is beautiful when

it is balanced and free of unhealthy
expectations. Here we can take a
moment to assess the relationships
in our life - be they personal or
professional, with individuals or with
ourselves.

This card also reminds us to reach out

and ask for help, maintaining balance.
Nobody walks the road alone. Or, you
may have more to give to the world
around you. Where energy flows there
is health – just make sure you proceed
in harmony with your mind/body/spirit.

93
7 Seven of Stones

I enjoy the fruits of my harvest and now

I repose and rest. It is the perfect time to
reflect and open up to the many options
in my path.

The Seven of Stones reminds us to

pause, step out of our normal routine
and truly disengage for a moment. Sit
inside of this warm lit space, enjoy the
opening of light above and around you.
Take your time.

This is an opportunity to assess the

quality of your life path. Do you feel
aligned with your present path? Are
there things that you can shift so that
you’re more in harmony with your
truth?

This is a card of rest - treat yourself to

quality alone time and give your desires
plenty of space to surface.

94
Eight of Stones 8

I give myself to my craft. It is the divine

flowing through me.

The satisfaction I feel from refining

my skill is enough to know that I am
complete when I give time to my sacred
work.

If we are drawn to a certain craft,

creative outlet, or area of study, it is
because these things connect us to our
source. Too often we deny ourselves
what gives us pleasure. Doing what you
love heals.

95
9 Nine of Stones

Here we rejoice in how far we have

come. Our accomplishments are
internal and external; we make space
to honor both. The Nine of Stones also
reminds us to allow ourselves luxury. In
the example here, it comes in the form
of bare feet and fresh air.

When you recognize your

accomplishments, large and small,
and love yourself for achieving them,
you strengthen your inner trust and
personal power. Believing in yourself is
the first step. Knowing that you deserve
abundance is the second.

Ten of Stones 10

I enjoy abundance! My desires are

becoming my reality. I have all that I
need. Material and spiritual wholeness.

Spiritually, do I feel whole? What does

being whole mean to me? How does
connecting to my center and grounded
self-love serve me? Am I feeling a part
of all that is?

You place your hands on the earth.

There is energy emanating from the
earth in response to your touch. Being
whole spiritually is a precedent to
feeling whole materially and physically.
The Ten of Stones provides a good
opportunity to reach into this well of
love. Release fear and remember your
strength. You are powerful, beautiful,
and a creator of your world. You revel
in your interconnectedness, you radiate,
you are complete.

11 Seed of Stones

Little deer, you harvest the energy

around you so effectively to materialize
your dreams. You work with what you
have to gain what you need. I do my
best to learn from you, little Seed.

We are called to notice the vibrant

potential around us. The lush green,
wildflowers, and running streams. Being
receptive to opportunity can energize
our path towards our goals. We cannot
receive with a clenched fist.

Our Seed of Stones inspires openness.

New opportunities benefit from a
foundation and a plan. We use the
building blocks around us to create the
life we desire.

Root of Stones 12

This is steady work. If you fall off track,

the present moment is a good moment
to re-gather your spirit and jump back
in. Everything has its own time; this
card simply directs us towards noticing
the great benefits of being dedicated.

Take a look at those pollen-filled little

legs. She is not overburdened or heavy,
because it is love she carries. She is
driven by capital-P Purpose, and even
naps on the flowers, pollinating a bit
while she rests.

Discover your balance-point. Bumble

bee can help. Spend some time with the
energy of this card and give yourself the
space you need to pace yourself.

13 Flower of Stones

To inspire us into righteous worth and

self care, who other than this grandma
grizzly bear?

As we travel from Seed, Root, to Flower,

through curiosity, action, and focus –
we reach a stage where we truly step
into ourselves and into our worth. The
heartbeat of our work is sustained by
a steady pace; now we can go inward
and nourish our sweet selves.

The feeling here is one of security,

feeling fine in our skin or fur, and
reclaiming space to fully enjoy our
senses. There is trust in the process and
complete trust of self.

Harvest of Stones 14

I know success because I embody and

create success.

To find ourselves in the sweet

presence of this musk ox momma, we
immediately feel the stability, care,
and overall respect emanating from her
being.

The Harvest of Stones brings us to the

final stage of the Stones suit. We have
put in the time and energy and we have
achieved a mature sense of security
within ourselves. This can be material
security, but like our Ten of Stones, we
also recognize wholeness in light of
spirit and connection to our heart.

About the Author/Illustrator:

Artist Mariza Ryce Aparicio-Tovar grew up

around artists and makers who nurtured
her creativity. Her family, who are a mix of
Mexican (Wixárika and Chichimeca) and
American (Mohawk) lineages, raised her with
practices honoring land and relationships
with the natural world. Her work explores
issues of mental health and self-awareness,
advocating care for our planet and ourselves,
so that collectively we may experience our full
potential.

After graduating from Reed College in 2009

with a BA in Cultural Anthropology, Mariza
temporarily settled in various countries in South
East Asia, Europe, and Oceania. She has lived
and worked in Alaska since 2014.

The imagery of the tarot deck features Alaska

flora and fauna, inspired by the years Mariza
spent collecting biology data for the Alaska
Department of Fish and Game in Kodiak, the
Alaska Peninsula, and Unalaska.

Her time in summer field camps counting

salmon, living completely off-grid in parts of
Alaska she describes as “the most beautiful
102
places I’ve ever seen,” gave her the space to
find her voice as an artist and translate that
discovery into tangible form.

She started selling her art in the summer of

2019 by investing in an eco-friendly printer
and printing from home. If she could give one
sentence of advice it would be, “Live a life
you love.” She hopes that all of the beings of
our planet, plant and animal, are given the fair
opportunity to live a life they love.

About the Original Editor:

The booklet of the First Edition box set was co-

created with my dear friend, Kelli McConnell.
To have had the opportunity to share the birth
of the Gentle Tarot with her and to have her
loving, magical spirit imbued in its text fills my
heart completely.

Kelli transitioned from this world on Sunday,

November 7, 2021, having battled fiercely
against an aggressive cancer with hope,
determination, and grace. Although losing
her on this plane is heartbreaking, the path
she walked continues to inspire every life she
touched.

She was the Director of Spiritual Exploration at

the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Athens,
Georgia. She was a Usui + Karuna Reiki Master
and Tarot Enthusiast. She offered spiritual
support to people through the mediums of
Reiki, Tarot/Divination and Animist/Earth-
honoring ritual practices.

I have never met anyone who held space for

others so sincerely, and who did so with such
immense love, humor, and spirit. Although
there have been many changes in this
104
guidebook compared to the first booklet, I have
kept most of her contributions. I love sharing a
bit of her spark with you.

No words can fully convey the depth of beauty

and the breadth of experience she shared while
she walked amongst us.

In her words, during the time after her

diagnosis, “Crack your heart open. Let the light
in. Let the light out.” - Kelli McConnell, one of
the brightest shooting stars I have ever met.
