Dialogue HIV TEST
Doctor: Hi, how are you feeling today?
Patient: A bit nervous.
Doctor: That's understandable. We're going to do an HIV test. I'll briefly explain how it works.
Patient: Okay.
Doctor: The HIV test detects antibodies or antigens of the virus in your blood. We'll take a
small blood sample with a syringe and analyze it in the lab.
Patient: What instruments do you use?
Doctor: We need a sterile syringe, tubes for the blood, and specific reagents. In the lab,
automated analyzers will be used.
Patient: How long do the results take?
Doctor: Generally, a few days. If it's a rapid test, 20-30 minutes.
Patient: How are the results interpreted?
Doctor: A negative result means no HIV was detected. A positive result indicates HIV is
present, and we'll do a confirmation test.
Patient: What are the expected values?
Doctor: Negative if you don't have HIV, positive if you do.
Patient: Thanks, doctor. I feel a bit more relaxed now.
Doctor: I'm glad to hear that. Ready for the test?
Patient: Yes, ready.
Doctor: Great, let's get started.
