*SURF CRAZY STARTS PLAYING*

Everyone starts dancing.
*MUSIC STOPS*
The beach people stop, standing in front of the class, then
they run around and enter the bar.

2 INT. BIG MOMMA’S BAR – DAY

The beach people talk to eachother excitedly.

*ENGINE SOUNDS*
*MOTOR REVVING*
Everyone looks around scared. Seacat takes a step ahead.
Scarlett comes in, face to face with the beach people. The
other Rodents follow closely.

SCARLETT
Soifers! I knew I smelled something fishy.
SEACAT (comes face to face with the Rodents)
Rodents! I knew I should’ve laid some traps!
SPARKLES
Thought you were exterminated!
SABRINA
And I thought you Soifers was all washed up.
SCARLETT
Yeah, ‘cause clearly, youse is drips!
CHEECHEE
You should make like the ocean and wave goodbye.

The Rodents giggle.

CHEECHEE (CONT’D)
‘Cause the Rodents want the place all to themselves!
SABRINA
Yeah, the Rodents want this place all to themselves!
Ourselves!

Scarlett steps in front of the girls, piercing Seacat with her

gaze.

SCARLETT (showing towards the girls)

They does not lie.
SEACAT (laughs sarcastically)
Sorry, but Big Momma’s a great place to hangout and
we want it all to ourselves.
SCARLETT (takes a step towards them)
I’m so very sorry, but that’s not going to happen
anytime soon!

Tanner walks in, through the people.

TANNER (pushing his way through)

Excuse me, excuse me…excuse me!

He comes face to face with Scarlett, looking into her eyes

innocently.

TANNER
What?

Scarlett makes a grimace and a weird, mocking face.

SCARLETT
I’ll show you what! (clicks fingers)

Everyone turns around towards Lela (Ambra sta langa masa, iar
atunci cand se intorc toti incepe muzica.)
*MUSIC STARTS*
*EVERYONE STARTS DANCING* (facem coregrafia de la inceput pana
la 2:00)
After the dance, we all go down and the lights go out.

3 INT. BIG MOMMA’S BAR – NIGHT

The beach people all dance (avem pe fundal muzica 70’s). The
Rodents are all at a secluded, silent table.

LANITA
So, boss, how are we gonna get this place to be only the
Rodents’ hangout?
SCARLETT (annoyed)
Shut it, I’m thinking!
SABRINA (confused)
How long is that gonna take?
SCARLETT (even more annoyed)
Good! Now I got two things to think about.

She stands up, walking towards the beach people with her
entourage behind her.
SCARLETT (CONT’D)
We are not gonna let a bunch of water-logged wash-
outs spoil our fine evening.

As she says that, it all goes quiet and the beach people aren’t
talking to each other anymore.
CHEECHEE (looking around, arrogantly)
Big Momma’s like my second home…If I had a first one.
LANITA (sad)
This is where I revved my first wheelie.
SCARLETT
I’ll show you what! (clicks fingers)

Everyone else starts talking again as they scare a couple of

beach people from their seats. They sit down again at that
table and Lela sits down, accompanied by Sabrina, putting a few
bottles on the table.

LELA (giggly)
I got drinks for everyone!
SCARLETT (smiling smugly)
Thanks, Lela!

They look around for a bit, then Lela looks back at Scarlett.

SCARLETT
Hey, those surfers weren’t bothering you, were they?
LELA (confused)
No, of course not! They’re actually really nice, you
know?

The Rodents go quiet, then they start laughing.

SCARLETT
Ah, you got us for a second there, I won’t lie.

Lela looks away, melancholic and fake laughing.

On the other side, Tanner looks at Lela longingly. Seacat hits
his arm.
LONGTREE
Yo, what are you doing? That’s the enemy!
TANNER
But she’s so…different from her sister. She’s caring
and passionate, not at all like those rodents. I’m starting to
think maybe they’re not all that bad.
TEDDY (jumps in)
Nah, they’re all that bad. Seriously, did you get hit
in the head with a surfing board? They’re insane and mean.
Nothing good about those, I’m telling you.

Tanner looks at Lela and everything goes dark (iar mergem in

spate).

4 EXT.BEACH – DAY
Lela is walking around. Seagulls are the background noise.
She’s walking, not watching where she’s going, and bumps
unexpectedly into Tanner. They both apologize and he frowns
when he looks at her.

TANNER
Where you headed? The motorbikes and Rodents are that
way. (he points behind her)
LELA (flushed)
Oh, I was just…(sigh) I want to learn surfing.
TANNER (surprised, amused)
You? Surfing? Yeah, sure, like your sister would ever
allow you…
LELA (insulted, defending herself)
I don’t need my sister’s permission to do anything…I
am my own person.
TANNER
I’m sure you are, I was just saying…

Silence falls over them.

TANNER (hopeful, quiet)
I could…give you a few lessons if you want. Teach you
how to surf and all…

Lela agrees before even hearing all he has to say and they both
smile excitedly.

LELA (smiling)
Can we start right now?

Tanner nods multiple times and they run off the beach. Lights
go out.

5 INT. BIG MOMMA’S BAR – NIGHT

Tanner and Lela enter the bar together, laughing. Everyone else
is seated, looking at them accusatory. Their smiles fade away
and all color fades from their faces once they see how annoyed
the groups are.

SEACAT (frowning)
Got something to confess, Tanner?
Silence.
TEDDY (eyes narrowed)
What? Cat got your tongue?
Teddy and Seacat fist bump, giggling at that joke.

SCARLETT (irritated, mad)

Lela, come here! Right now!

Lela does not budge. Scarlett’s eyes widen.

SCARLETT (angry)
I said—
LELA (brave, cuts her off)
I know what you said. I heard you. I chose not to
listen, though, because I’m tired of you controlling my life.
All of our lives!

Lela takes a step ahead and then one more, towards the big
group.

LELA (CONT’D)
This fight has been going on for what? Five years?
Fifteen years? A hundred years? It’s starting to get really
boring and everyone else knows it. The only one holding onto
this grudge is you! Why do you want us to fight so much?

Scarlett goes quiet, looking in Lela’s eyes.

TANNER
Look, guys…I know y’all are disappointed in me, but
today I’ve learned more than I did in my whole life.
SPARKLES (sarcastic)
And that is?
TANNER
We have more in common than you could think.
TEDDY
Like what?
LANITA
Yeah, like what? What could we possibly have in
common with these soifers?
Lanita and Teddy shoot each other a deadly stare.
TANNER
Like our love for Big Momma’s. (he looks at them,
hopeful) We’ve been fighting over this place when we could’ve
just…shared it. All along.
LELA (smiling)
Exactly! Why does one of us have to conquer and
conquest? Why can’t we all just get along?
SABRINA (skeptical)
Because we love motorbikes and they don’t!
Lela rolls her eyes and so does every single beach person.
Eventually, they sigh.

LELA
So what? They could learn how to use one and we could
learn how to surf, just like I did today.
SCARLETT (stands up)
You what?
LELA
You heard that right! I learned how to surf and it’s
actually so much fun. Why should we judge a thing before trying
it? It’s stupid and childish!

Silence. Sabrina slowly stands up and comes towards Lela.

*” BUT DADDY I LOVE HIM” STARTS PLAYING IN THE BG SOFTLY*

SABRINA (smiling softly)

I think you’re right…We’re all just people, trying to
live a weirdly aesthetic life on the beach, every day.
Sparkles stands up, followed closely by Cheechee, who looks
guilty at Scarlett.

SPARKLES (smiling)
Yeah, let’s not ruin it for eachother.
Cheechee touches Lela’s shoulder affectionately. Soon enough,
everyone, taking turns, goes towards Lela and Tanner, showing
their support.
Scarlett is still in front of them. After everyone gathers
around, Scarlett looks up, defeated, and hugs Lela.

SCARLETT (sniffles, smiling)

Can’t believe you grew up…so quickly.
She steps back from the hug and turns towards Tanner, looking
him in the eye. She puts her hand out for him.

SCARLETT (her hand forward)

Let’s end this.
She holds out her hand, but Tanner stares at her.
SCARLETT (annoyed)
My arm hurts!
Tanner gasps and shakes her hand, relieved.
Everyone turns to each other, smiling or joking, the Rodents
and the beach people now talking like old friends.
Lights go out.

THE END.
