Language Awareness

Course Description:
This course offers trainees the opportunity to polish up their English
language skills. The first 10 weeks will focus on extensive reading practice
and writing practice. The second 10 weeks will focus on speaking and
listening practice. Grammar and vocabulary development will be throughout
the course.

Objectives (first 10 wks):

• Trainees will expand their ability to read extensively by reading the
novel Homegoing.
• Trainees will develop reading comprehension skills.
• Trainees will develop their writing skills by working on summaries,
paraphrasing, outlining, and basic essay construction.

Course Requirements (first 10 wks):

Attend and participate regularly in class.
Complete all homework assignments on time.
Write an in-class essay.
Take a final exam.

Grading (first 10 wks):

Class participation 20%
Preparation/Homework 30%
In-class essay 20%
Final Exam 30%
