 Technologies
Advanced technologies made more affordable
A major advantage of the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s new CMF architecture
is that it allows a wide variety of cars of different sizes to be created using a
common basket of out-of-view parts, bringing cost reductions which can be
passed on to customers in the form of increased content at attractive prices.
In Mégane this takes the form of advanced technologies from Espace and
Talisman, previously unavailable in the Mégane’s market sector.
Unique-in-class features include a configurable 7-inch Thin Film Transistor
(TFT) colour instrument binnacle, R-LINK 2 connectivity systems via either a
7-inch landscape or 8.7-inch portrait tablet, Multi-Sense technology allowing
owners to personalise the driving experience and, on the GT version, 4Control
four-wheel steering.
R-LINK 2 is the control centre which gives access to all the car’s technologies,
including navigation, telephone, apps and radio. It is intuitive and easy to
use, just like a smartphone or tablet, and can be customised thanks to three
configurable Home pages and up to six different profiles. A free package
provides a 12-month subscription to TomTom Traffic, the R-LINK store and
up-to-date European maps.
Higher trim levels have the R-LINK 2 multimedia control centre featuring an
8.7-inch portrait display which is highly responsive and can be operated with
pinch and zoom movements, just like a smartphone or tablet. It includes voice
recognition for the navigation, telephone, apps and radio and comes with
larger loudspeakers than the previous Mégane, better-positioned for better
sound quality at the foot of the doors. The benefit is especially noticeable
with the Arkamys sound system.
There is also an optional BOSE audio system developed in conjunction
with Renault which features a tailor-made sound system with a central
front speaker, six more speakers strategically located around the cabin and
a subwoofer in the boot.

Blind Spot Warning (BSW) ensures overtaking is conducted safely by displaying
a visual signal in the wing mirrors when another vehicle is detected in the blind
spot. It functions between 19 and 90mph. The Rear View Camera displays
the space behind the vehicle on the tablet, accompanied by a moving guide
line and a static guide line. Further assistance is provided by the ultrasonic
360 degree parking sensors mounted at the front, rear and side of the car.
Automatic High Low Beam (AHL) detects the lights of oncoming vehicles
and the rear lights of vehicles ahead and automatically switches to dipped
beam. It is also able to detect street lighting.
4Control – Unique-in-Class
For the Mégane GT there is also 4Control all-wheel steering. It makes the car
more responsive and precise to drive on typically twisting roads and more
manoeuvrable at parking speeds.
At speeds of less than 50mph in Sport mode and 37mph in other modes the
front and rear wheels turn in opposite directions, by up to 2.7 degrees at the
back, giving the GT the manoeuvrability of a shorter-wheelbase vehicle. At
higher speeds the front and rear wheels steer in the same direction, turning
by up to 1 degree at the back, for greater stability. 4Control calculates the
angle of the rear wheels 100 times a second and adjusts them as necessary.
The 4Control system is another technology from the segment above and is
also available on the Espace and Talisman. It offers four optional settings –
Comfort, Sport, Neutral and Perso.
Neutral is the default setting and provides the ideal balance between
sportiness and comfort for everyday driving. Comfort lends itself to a more
economical driving style while Perso allows the driver to fully personalise
the set-up.
Sport introduces the most dynamic driving style and is accessed directly via
the R.S. Drive button (only available on GT Nav). Sport mode reduces the
steering inputs needed by 40 per cent (35 per cent in other drive modes)
and adjusts the accelerator, engine and transmission mapping.

CMF architecture – built in Europe, for Europe
The Renault Mégane is the fifth Renault to be built on the Renault-Nissan
Alliance’s new Common Module Family (CMF) vehicle architecture, after the
Espace, Kadjar, Talisman and Talisman Estate. The CMF platform is a highly
flexible method of building cars with great efficiency, high levels of automation
and exceptional quality. It also allows technologies from upper-segment cars
to be made available in less expensive models more affordably.

Highly efficient powertrains to suit every need
From launch there is a choice of four engines on offer in the UK – two Energy
TCe turbocharged petrol options with capacities and power outputs of
1.2-litres/130hp (manual and EDC) and 1.6-litres/205hp (GT only – EDC).
The turbodiesel alternatives offer a 1.5-litre dCi 110 unit, with manual or
EDC transmission, or a 1.6-litre dCi 130 engine.
An Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) six-speed automatic gearbox is available with
the dCi 110 engine and a seven-speed automatic gearbox is available with
the TCe 130 engine. The EDC seven-speed automatic gearbox is standard
with the TCe 205 engine for GT Nav. The dCi 110 Automatic EDC provides
emissions as low as 98 g/km of CO2, compared to 96 g/km of CO2 for the
manual version. The TCe 130 Automatic EDC offers 122 g/km of CO2 – just
two grams more than its manual counterpart, while the TCe 205 engine for
the GT Nav’s emissions are 134 g/km of CO2.
The four engines and three transmissions offer fuel economy of up to 76.4mpg
(NEDC Combined), with CO2 emissions as low as 96g/km. This is with thanks
to the sleek shape and low weight of the car, weighing from 1,340kg (TCe 130
versions); the engine’s Stop&Start system, which is standard on all manual
models; the availability of a double-clutch EDC transmission; an ECO driving
mode which optimises the engine’s performance when cruising; the Renault
Driving eco2 feature to help owners adopt a more economical driving style
and standard brake energy recovery.
The 1.2-litre TCe 130 engine with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed
EDC gearbox produces 205Nm at 2,000rpm. The manual can cover 0-62mph
in 10.3 seconds and has economy and emissions figures of 53.3mpg and
119g/km. Homologation of the model equipped with the EDC gearbox is
still in progress, but economy and emissions are expected to be the same
in the range – a mere 96g/km, making it one of the leaders in its class – with
fuel economy of 76.4mpg. The figures for the EDC version are 98g/km and
74.3mpg, while the respective 0-62mph times are 11.3 and 12.3 seconds.
The dCi 110 engine benefits from extensive development work on the intake
phase and combustion process, and incorporates technologies gleaned from
Renault’s Formula 1 experience. The torque outputs are 260Nm for the
manual and 250Nm with the EDC, in both cases at 1,750rpm.
The 130hp 1.6-litre dCi 130 engine produces 320Nm of torque at 1,750rpm.
The architecture of this engine also benefits from Formula 1 know-how –
a major contributor to its exemplary efficiency. It can accelerate Mégane
from 0-62mph in 10 seconds, yet economy and CO2 emissions are 70.6mpg
and 104g/km.
Reserved for the GT, the 1.6-litre TCe 205, developed by Renault Sport and
mated to a seven-speed EDC gearbox, produces 205hp and 280Nm of
torque at 2,400rpm, making this the quickest model in the range: 0-62mph
is dispatched in 7.1 seconds and the top speed is 145mph. Yet this is not at
the expense of fuel economy (47.1mpg) or emissions (134g/km).

tuning to make Mégane more precise and responsive than the previous
model while raising comfort levels and refinement.
The dampers and bump stops have been revised, the front wishbone bushings
are new and there is no longer any rubber between the subframe and the body.
The rear suspension joints have been revised to improve absorption of road
surface irregularities and the rear beam axle has been modified to provide
bigger micro-steering movements of the rear wheels when turning into corners.
For the GT there are bespoke springs, dampers and anti-roll bars aimed at
improving vertical body control while recognising that this is still a model
intended for everyday use.
The GT will also be available with two EDC transmission technologies developed
by Renault Sport: Launch Control and Multi-Change Down. Launch Control
allows for faster acceleration from a standing start while Multi-Change Down
speeds up sequential down changing. It was inspired by the automatic
starting systems featured in Renault track cars.
When Launch Control is selected the car’s sophisticated electronics fully
manage getaways to ensure the fastest starts in complete safety. This
contributes to the GT’s 0-62mph time of just 7.1 seconds.
The system is simple to operate. With the driver’s left foot on the brake pedal,

The Mégane is being offered in a 25-version line-up based on six trim levels
familiar to owners of other Renault vehicles – Expression+, Dynamique Nav,
Dynamique S Nav, Signature Nav, GT-Line Nav and GT Nav. All provide a
comprehensive standard specification, rising to the truly luxurious or sporty
at the top-of-the-range.
Standard safety features include ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution
and Emergency Brake Assist, ESC (Electronic Stability Control) with traction and
understeer control, cruise control, speed limiter, Hill Start Assist, six airbags, seat
belts with load limiters and pre-tensioners at the front, side impact protection
bars and ISOFIX child-seat mounting points on the two outer rear seats.
Renault’s Visio system, comprising of lane departure warning, traffic sign
recognition and automatic high/low beam, has been applied to all models
above Expression+.

Ensuring a comfortable and convenient journey for all occupants, all versions
provide a two-way adjustable steering column, height and lumbar adjustable
driver and passenger seat, Bluetooth & USB connectivity, accessory power
point, a 12-volt front socket and ample storage throughout the cabin. These
all feature on the Expression+ trim level, which also includes an automatic
electronic parking brake, F1-style fuel filler cap, LED daytime running lamps,
tinted windows, all-round electric windows, leather steering wheel, Bluetooth
connectivity, 4 x 20W DAB radio with fingertip controls and an AUX input.
All versions are protected against defects recognised by Renault with a
three year / 60,000 mile warranty (first two years have no mileage limit).
In the event of a breakdown, Renault provides emergency roadside repairs
or towing to the nearest dealer within the UK and Northern Ireland 24/7

2010 Renaultsport-inspired GT and
GT-Line versions added to the range
in June. The range is completed with
the introduction in the same month
of the Coupé-Cabriolet. At the same
time Renault also introduces its all-

FAP engine.

Sep 2013 Facelifted Mégane makes
world debut at Frankfurt Motor Show.
Dec 2013 Ordering opens for the
facelifted Mégane range alongside
the introduction of new brand identity,
1.2 TCe 130 EDC engine and R-LINK
infotainment system.
Sep 2014 GT 220 models added to
the range.
2015
Sep 2015 Mégane IV makes its global
debut at Frankfurt Motor Show, based
on new CMF architecture.
Nov 2015 Mégane IV is awarded five-
star EuroNCAP safety rating.
2016 All-New Mégane is launched in
European markets.
