E.g.: Although/though/even though we didn’t like him, we had to be nice to him.
In spite of/despite the pouring rain, he managed to get to school on time.
 Use clauses of result
E.g.: It was too dark in the room, so we had to switch on the lights.
 Give an example from your experience
E.g.: For example, I had an important exam last month and wanted to go somewhere quiet to
study for it, and I chose to go to my school library. I realized it was a wise idea because I could
fully concentrate on my work. (Describe a quiet place you like spending your time in.)

VOCABULARY: DESCRIBING PEOPLE

1. Note how these words and phrases are used in context to describe people’s appearance.

My sister’s got sleek dark long hair. (smooth and shiny)

She has an oval face and a flawless complexion. (the quality of the skin on her face is perfect)

He’s tall and slim, but he’s in good shape. (ịn good physical condition)

He’s got broad shoulders and is well built. (with a solid, strong body)

My cousin Susan has to wear a teeth brace. (a metal device to straighten her teeth)
