operation of the Chabahar port, marking a significant
milestone in their cooperation to operate the Shahid-

Sarbananda Sonowal led the Indian delegation to Iran.
 The contract, was signed between Indian Ports Global Ltd.
(IPGL) and Port and Maritime Organisation (PMO) of Iran,
that involves substantial investment and development
initiatives.
 It replaces an initial pact inked in 2016 that covered India’s
operations at the Shahid Beheshti terminal of Chabahar
port and has been renewed annually.
 India Ports Global Chabahar Free Zone (IPGCFZ), a
subsidiary of state-run India Global Ports Limited (IGPL),
currently operates the Shahid Beheshti terminal at
Chabahar port.
 This is the first time India will take over the management of
an overseas port.
 IPGL will invest approximately $120 million in equipping
the Shahid-Behesti terminal, enhancing the port’s efficiency
and capacity.

 India has extended a credit window of $250 million for mutually identified projects aimed at improving Chabahar-related infrastructure,
emphasizing its commitment to regional development.
 The Chabahar Port is an India-Iran flagship project. Chabahar is a deep water port. It is located in the Sistan-Baluchistan province of
Iran.
 It serves as an important transit port for trade with Afghanistan and Central Asian countries.
 In May 2016, India signed a tripartite agreement with Iran and Afghanistan to develop the Shahid Beheshti Terminal at Chabahar.
 It is India's first foreign port project.
 Chabahar is envisaged as a crucial link in the eastern route of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), facilitating the
movement of goods between India and Central Asian countries.
 This collaboration between India and Iran on developing infrastructure and logistics along the 7,200 km INSTC aims to reduce
transportation costs and time, thereby promoting trade between these regions.
 INSTC is a multi-modal transportation route linking the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea via Iran and onward to
northern Europe via St. Petersburg in Russia.

2. In May as per report Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd to conduct two Pilot Projects under the Drone Didi Yojana.

 Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahindra & Mahindra
Ltd to conduct two Pilot Projects under the Drone Didi Yojana.
 Launched earlier this year, the scheme aims to train 15,000 women to operate drones for agricultural purposes such as fertilising the
crop, monitoring crop growth and planting seeds, thereby creating new livelihood opportunities for women through imparting skills in
new technology areas.
 Under this partnership, MSDE and M&M will conduct two Pilot Projects at the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI), situated in
Hyderabad and Noida, to skill 500 women in exclusive batches of 20 women each.
 The 15-day curriculum, approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), will be delivered through Remote Pilot Training
Organisation (RPTO) instructors at these Centres.
 The learning and outcomes from the Pilot Projects will assist MSDE in scaling up the Drone Didi Yojana at identified NSTIs/ITIs across the
country.
 As a further support to the intent of the Drone Didi Yojana, M&M will soon roll out Drone training for women at the company’s skilling
centres at Zaheerabad, Telangana, and Nagpur, Maharashtra.

 The main objective behind starting this scheme is to empower women members of Self Help Groups by providing them a mode and
platform to earn more.
 This scheme is also known by some other names in whole of country like "NAMO Drone Didi Yojana" or "Pradhanmantri Drone Didi
Scheme" or "Prime Minister Drone Didi Scheme".
 The initiative aims to supply drones to 15,000 women Self Help Groups (SHGs) to rent to farmers for agriculture purposes.
 Government of India under NAMO Drone Didi Scheme will provide drone on subsidised price to Women Self Help Groups.
 These Drones can be used by the members of Women Self Help Groups for rental purpose.
 Subsidy of 80% of Drone Cost or a maximum of Rs. 8,00,000/- will be provided to Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) to purchase drones for
commercial purpose under NAMO Drone Didi Scheme.
 Loan Facility from National Agriculture India Financing Facility (AIF) will also available for Women SHGs to cover the remaining cost of
drone.
 The interest rate payable on loan from AIF is 3% per year.
 It is mandatory to complete the drone fly training program in order to avail the subsidy on the purchase of drone under Namo Drone Didi
Scheme.
 It is to be estimated that, Beneficiaries of Namo Drone Didi Scheme can earn additional income of Rs. 1,00,000/- per year with the help of
drones which is provided to them under Namo Drone Didi Scheme.
 Only Women Self Help Groups are eligible to claim the subsidy to purchase drone under NAMO Drone Didi Scheme.
 Drone will only be use for rental purpose for Agricultural Activity.

 Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) has adopted a work plan focused on


assessing country landscapes, drafting policy frameworks, and
conducting biofuel workshops.
 These were adopted as immediate goals at a key meeting of the
body held on the sidelines of the G20 deliberations in Brazil last
month. And, the officials added that the GBA has decided to take
stock of them in July.
 According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), biofuels have a
potential to grow by 3.5-5-times by 2050 due to Net-Zero targets,
creating a huge opportunity for India.
 A record 171.2 billion litres of biofuels were procured globally in the
year 2022, with India contributing just 2.7 per cent or 4.6 billion
litres. Despite this, India remains the third-largest producer of
ethanol, after the United States (US) and Brazil.

 The Ramcharitmanas, Sahrdayaloka-Locana, and Panchatantra have been honored with inclusion in UNESCO‘s Memory of the World
Asia-Pacific Regional Register, marking a significant moment of pride for India.
 UNESCO has recognised a total of 20 items from the Asia Pacific region in its Memory of the World Regional Register for the 2024 cycle.
 These included three each from China and Indonesia, and two each from Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, and Uzbekistan.
 The decision on the same was taken on May 7-8 in the 10th General Meeting of the Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the
Pacific (MOWCAP) in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.
 The addition of these three Indian literary legacies in the register will attract more readers, and researchers across the world to dive into
the artistic world of expression.
 It is noteworthy that ‘Sahṛdayaloka-Locana’, ‘Panchatantra’, and ‘Ramcharitmanas’ were authored by Acharya Anandvardhan, Pt.
Vishnu Sharma, and Goswami Tulsidas, respectively.
 The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), played a vital role in securing a historic moment during the 10th meeting of the
Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP).
 In the Asia Pacific region, a specific branch called the Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP) was
established in 1998.
 MOWCAP covers 43 countries, representing one of UNESCO's five regional programs.
 There are 494 inscriptions on the International MoW Register, as of May 2023, according to the UNESCO website. MOWCAP Regional
Register has inscribed 65 items from Asia-Pacific countries.
 Ramcharitmanas is written by Goswami Tulsidas in the 16th Century, Ramcharitmanas is a profound retelling of the Ramayana.
 It is composed in the Awadhi dialect, making it accessible to a broader audience of that era.
 Panchatantra attributed to Pt. Vishnu Sharma and penned around the 3rd century BCE, the Panchatantra is a cornerstone of Indian
fables.
 Originally composed in Sanskrit, the work is renowned for its 'story within a story' structure.
 Sahrdayāloka-Locana is written by Acharya Anandvardhan and commented upon by philosopher Abinava Gupta, this text is a seminal
work in Indian poetics.

 The Yogi Adityanath government is also planning to host a global farmers’ summit ‘Krishi Bharat’ in November 2024 in association with
the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
 The state is looking to host the farm summit on the same scale as the UP Global Investors Summit (GIS) held in February 2023, which
fetched the state more than 19,000 investment proposals to the tune of Rs 40 trillion from domestic and multinational companies.

7. According to a new analysis by Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (PM-EAC) share of the majority Hindu population

 According to a working paper of the Economic Advisory Council to the


Prime Minister (EAC-PM) share of the majority Hindu population declined
by 7.82% from 84.68% to 78.06% between 1950 and 2015 while that

period.
 The paper, authored by EAC-PM member Shamika Ravi, consultant Apurv
Kumar Mishra and Young Professional Abraham Jose, said the Christian
population share rose 5.38% from 2.24% to 2.36% during the period.
 The share of Sikh population increased by 6.58% from 1.24% in 1950 to
1.85% in 2015. Even the share of the Buddhist population witnessed a
noticeable increase from 0.05% to 0.81%.
 On the other hand, the share of Jains in the population of India decreased
from 0.45% in 1950 to 0.36% in 2015.
 The share of the Parsi population in India witnessed a stark 85% decline,
reducing from 0.03% share in 1950 to 0.004% in 2015.
 The EAC-PM paper also studied 167 countries to see the global trends in
the majority and minority population trends.
 On the Indian subcontinent, the report found that all the Muslim majority
countries witnessed an increase in the share of the majority religious
denomination except Maldives where the share of the majority group
(Shafi’i Sunnis) declined by 1.47%.
 In Bangladesh, there was an 18% increase in the share of the majority
religious group which is the largest such increase in the Indian
subcontinent.
 Pakistan witnessed an increase of 3.75% in the share of the majority
religious denomination (Hanafi Muslim) and a 10% increase in the share of
total Muslim population despite the creation of Bangladesh in 1971.
 Among non-Muslim majority countries, Myanmar, India and Nepal saw a
decline in the share of the majority religious denomination.
 The last Census of India was conducted in 2011 with the government indefinitely delaying the 2021 Census.
 The 2011 Census had counted 96.63 crore Hindus — 79.8% of the population and 17.22 crore Muslims — 14.2% of the population in the
country at the time.
 The latest NFHS (2019-2021) report released in May 2022, showed that the TFR for Muslims was at 2.36, only marginally higher than the
1.94 TFR recorded for the aggregate of all Hindu communities and of the national average, which was at 2.

 Sanchi procures only in the 20-25% of milk producing region. The collaboration with Gujarat Co-operative Milk
Marketing Federation (GCMMF) will help the state cooperative to expand operations to other parts of the state.
 MP is the third-biggest milk producing state in the country. Sanchi purchases one million litres of milk from farmers
mostly in the western region of the state such as Indore, Ujjain and Bhopal.

 These reports are prepared half yearly with reference to the position as at end-March and end-September each

 The present report (42nd in the series) is with reference to the position as at end-March 2024.
 The report is divided into two parts: Part I contains the developments regarding movement of foreign
exchange reserves, information on the external liabilities vis-à-vis the reserves, adequacy of reserves, etc.,

 The Reserve Bank has the mandate to invest up to USD 5 billion in the bonds issued by the India
Infrastructure Finance Company (UK) Limited. As at end of March 2024, the amount invested in
such bonds stood at USD 932 million.

 Though the proposal was not initially acceptable to the central bank then, it was subsequently decided to carve out $5 billion of the

October 10, 2023 from onboarding new customers on its mobile app ‘Bob
World’.
 The bank will now resume onboarding new customers on the Bob World

compliance of regulatory guidelines.

 Last week, the RBI had lifted restrictions on Bajaj Finance on sanctioning and disbursal of loans through eCOM and Insta EMI Card.
 Earlier, the RBI had imposed restriction on Kotak Mahindra Bank from onboarding new customers via online and mobile banking platforms
and to stop issuing fresh credit cards with immediate effect following scrutiny.
 In December 2020, the RBI had barred HDFC Bank from issuing new cards and launching new digital initiatives after repeated instances of
technical outages.
 Following remedial action by HDFC Bank, the RBI partially lifted the ban on card issuances in August 2021. However, the ban on launching
new technology initiatives was lifted in 2022.

 Zomato announced the incorporation of ZPPL in 2021 as its wholly owned subsidiary to carry out the business as a
payment aggregator and an issuer of prepaid payment instruments.
 The food delivery major also reported a net profit of Rs 175 crore on a consolidated basis in the March quarter, aided by

disbursements.

 The Securities and Exchange Board of India(Sebi) has proposed to reduce the trading lot size of
privately placed infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs) to ₹25 lakh from the existing ₹1 crore.
 The proposal will help in increasing the liquidity of privately placed InvIT units by allowing a broader
base of investors to participate in the market and promote diversification of investment portfolios,
enabling investors to better manage risk.
 As per rules, if the InvIT invests at least 80% of its asset value in completed and revenue-generating
assets, the trading lot is ₹2 crore instead of ₹1 crore.
 The regulator has also proposed several other measures to facilitate ease of doing business for InvITs
and real estate investment trusts (REITs).
 Under the proposal, the regulator has suggested fixing the time for undertaking distributions to
unitholders by the REIT and InvIT to five working days from the date of declaration.
 The move is expected to bring efficiency to the distribution process and will aid in making funds
available to investors within a relatively shorter period of time.
 Also, it has been proposed to add a provision allowing REITs and InvITs to call a unitholders' meeting
with less than 21 days' notice.

31. Recently as per report Small finance banks (SFBs) are likely to seek clarification from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on loan portfolio
diversification, as the regulator has not specified the extent of diversification that should be seen as desirable.

 A satisfactory track record of performance for a minimum period of five years and being listed on a
recognised stock exchange are the first two criteria mandated by the regulator for conversion into a
universal bank.
 Of the 10 SFBs that were licensed in the first phase in 2015, eight were converted from microfinance
institutions.
 According to norms, all SFBs have to lend at least 75 per cent to the priority sector. And 50 per cent of the
loans have to be below Rs 25 lakh. So their exposure is more in the priority sector.
 The largest SFB in the country, AU SFB, which has a well-diversified loan book, meets all the parameters set
by the regulator for conversion to a universal bank.

choice for fulfilment of obligations.

Motor Third Party (MTP) insurance and the dwelling shops.
 The insurers will have to put in a mechanism to identify, record, coordinate and exchange information on the number of
lives/persons/vehicles covered by life and general insurers in each Gram Panchayat.
 The new norms will be applicable from the current finanical year.
 The new norms will also augur well for the recently-announced objective of achieving ‘Insurance for All by 2047’ of IRDAI.

 The 12 Public Sector Banks (PSBs) together had earned a net profit of Rs Rs 1,04,649 crore in 2022-23.
 Out of the total profit of Rs 141,203 crore earned during the FY24, market leader State Bank of India (SBI) alone contributed over 40 per
cent of the total earnings.
 SBI earned a profit of Rs 61,077 crore 22 per cent higher than the previous financial year (Rs 50,232 crore), followed by Bank Of Baroda

 In percentage terms Delhi-based Punjab National Bank had the highest net profit growth with 228 per cent to Rs 8,245 crore, followed by
Union Bank of India with a 62 per cent rise to Rs 13,649 crore and Central Bank of India with a 61 per cent increase to Rs 2,549 crore.
 During the year, the only public sector bank out of 12 reported drop in profit was Punjab & Sind Bank.
 Punjab & Sind Bank, headquartered in Delhi, reported a 55 per cent decline in annual net profit, dropping from Rs 1,313 crore in 2022-23
to Rs 595 crore in the fiscal year ending March 2024.
 PSB is a turnaround story from record losses of Rs 85,390 FY18 to record profit in FY24.
 The government has implemented a comprehensive 4R strategy: Recognising NPAs transparently, Resolution and recovery, Recapitalising
PSBs, and Reforms in the financial ecosystem.
 As part of the strategy, the government infused an unprecedented Rs 3,10,997 crore to recapitalise PSBs during the last five financial years
-- from 2016-17 to 2020-21.

weight), followed by cereals and pulses (9.67 per cent), and milk and products (6.61 per cent).
 Currently, CPI is calculated using 2012 as a base year.

(AL). CPI for Rural Labourer (RL). CPI (Rural/Urban/Combined).

 According to the latest National Accounts Statistics 2024 of the Ministry of


Statistics and Program Implementation, net household savings declined
sharply from Rs 9 lakh crore to Rs 14.16 lakh crore in the three years to
2022-23.

China, the UAE was the country's largest trading partner. The US was
the largest partner in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

 The FTA between India and the UAE came into effect in May 2022.
 Overall, India ranked 17th globally in exports, with a 1.8 per cent share in world trade. On the import front, the country

 India's merchandise exports in 2023-24 fell 3.11 per cent to $ 437.1 billion, while imports declined by 5.4 per cent to $

 In contrast, India's share in the global toy export market is minimal, totalling USD 167 million, which represents only 0.3 per cent of the
global exports, ranking it 27th.
 On the import side, India ranks even lower, at 61st, with toy imports amounting to USD 60 million.
 The largest importer of toys is the USA, which alone procured toys worth USD 22.2 billion. It is followed by the European Union (USD 9

 The facility was introduced in April 2020.
 Now all claims up to Rs 1 lakh under these heads will be auto-processed without any
human intervention.
 During the current year, around 2.25 crore members are expected to reap the benefits of this facility.

 The LPSC revamped the engine to align with the Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) approach, which brought significant benefits.
 Through this method, the material required for each engine has drastically dropped to just 13.7 kg of metal powder, compared to 565 kg
of forgings and sheets used in traditional manufacturing processes.

 A “Bambi Bucket”, also known as a helicopter bucket or a helibucket, to collect water from
Bhimtal Lake, located near Nainital, and poured it over the burning forests.
 Bambi Bucket is a specialised aerial firefighting tool which has been in use since the 1980s.
 It is essentially a lightweight collapsible container that releases water from underneath a
helicopter to targeted areas. The water is released by using a pilot-controlled valve.
