INVERSION OF SUBJECT AND VERB

A. INVERSION OF SUBJECT AND VERB


1. Prepositional Phrase /HERE, THERE, FIRST, LAST + V + noun (phrase)
Ex : A village stands at the foot of the hill.  At the foot of the hill stands a village .
Ex : The bus came there.  There came the bus.
2. Adv of (semi) negation + TRỢ ĐT V / Modal V +S+V
2- Adv of negation : never, hardly, nor, not only, no longer, nowhere, no sooner, not until, neither.
– Semi – negative adv : seldom, rarely, hardly, ever.
Ex : He has never seen that film.  Never has he seen that film.
3. Predicative adj + be + S
Ex : These boys are handsome.  Handsome are these boys.
4. Often
So + adj / adv +S+V
Such + {a(n)} + adj + noun
 + TRỢ Đt / Modal V + S + V
Ex : We often went for a walk together.  Often did we go for a walk together.
5. Much / many (a) few / (a) little / no .......
+ NOUN + Aux. V / Modal V S+V
Ex : We spent much money.  Much money did we spend.
6. No sooner + HAD + S + V3 THAN + S + V2 = S + had no sooner + V3 + THAN + S + V2
Scarcely / Hardly + HAD + S + V3 WHEN + S + V2 = S + had hardly/ scarcely + V3 + WHEN + S + V2
 Ngay sau khi ….thì …..
7. It was not until ( + ADV/ S + V) ………+ That + S + V2 = Not until + ADV/ S+ V + đảo ngữ mệnh đề sau.
 Chỉ đến khi….thì mới …..
8. Only by/ Only when/ Only with / Only after …… đảo ngữ mệnh đề sau.
TRANSFORMATION :
