COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

This course is an introduction to intermediate-level macroeconomic theory and analysis. Students will
develop the abilities to analyse, evaluate and synthesize economic information. Intermediate
Macroeconomics will cover topics on the Goods Market and the Money Market, the Labour Market,
Inflation and Unemployment, Unemployment and the Philips Curve, Nominal Money Growth, Financial
Markets, Managing the Economy, Productivity and Economic Growth, Taxation, Government Spending
and Resource Allocation and the Distribution of Income. This course will help students make informed
and responsible decisions on current economic conditions and economic and social policy

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After studying this course, student shall be able to:


 Explain Intermediate Macroeconomics and events happening in the Macroeconomic world
around us.
 Explain the basic concepts of macroeconomic theory and relate the basic economic theory and
principles to current macroeconomic issues and evaluate related public policy; how the State
system operates financially to keep an economy going; why government policy might fail; and,
how different sectors in the economy generate Income and Demand of economic goods intends
generating Supply of economic goods.
 Describe the role of money and the financial sector in achieving efficient macroeconomic
outcomes and distinguish between nominal and real variables; unemployment and the Philips
Curve; and, the International Monetary Fund Mechanism and the financial systems of the world
economy
 Analyze the constraints on government intervention; and how different productive activities
can work holistically to enhance economic growth
 Verbalize the financial markets’ expectations and the Nominal Money Growth
 Differentiate between Monetary and Fiscal Policy and the systems involved enhancing these
policies.
