The texts converge in emphasizing the anticipation surrounding the Oscar ceremony,
hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, scheduled to be broadcast from midnight on March 11 in the
UK. In the first text, there is a discussion about the expectation and national pride that
Cillian Murphy instilled in the Irish with the announcement of his Best Actor Oscar
nomination.
In the second text, the news of the victory and the importance of Cillian Murphy's
recognition for Ireland are even more emphasized. Both texts converge to express
optimism about the future of the Irish film industry, thanks to the collective success of
"Oppenheimer" and "Poor Things."
Book: Frankenstein
"Frankenstein" is a timeless literary work written by Mary Shelley. The narrative
revolves around Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist whose obsession leads him to
create a monster composed of parts from deceased individuals. Through his
experiments, he manages to infuse life into the creature. However, upon witnessing
the monstrous appearance of his creation, Victor is overcome with horror and chooses
to abandon it.
The rejected and forsaken creature, deemed hideous by its creator and society at
large, seeks solace through a series of devastating actions. It takes the lives of those
dearest to Victor, including his younger brother, closest friend, and beloved.
Consumed by grief and a thirst for revenge, Victor embarks on a journey in an attempt
to kill his own creation. However, he eventually decides to allow it to escape and
endure its existence in solitude until the end of its days.
Genres: Gothic fiction
First Published: 1818
Setting: Geneva, Switzerland and London, England
Main Characters: Victor Frankenstein; The Creature; William; Elizabeth; Henry;
Major Thematic Topics: revenge; creation, responsibility, and the consequences of
unchecked ambition.
Opinion: Frankenstein was one of the first books I read in my life, and I have a great
affection for this classic. The version I read in English was quite condensed, but it
still provided a great experience and had a simple language.
Favourite Character: Henry: He was killed by the creature, but he was a good friend
to Victor, always worried about Victor's time alone.
Least Favourite Character: I understand the pain of the creature's loneliness due to
its ugliness and frightening appearance, but it killed everyone Victor loved. He was
reckless in creating it, but he didn't deserve to go through all that.
