Newsletter Content for Awareness Campaign in PWD (hospitals,

pharmacies, clothing and shoe brands, restaurants, fruit shops, and

bakeries)
We are delighted to present to you the latest edition of our newsletter, highlighting the
remarkable success of the NUMS Kindred Kinship Kidney Care Program, led by the NUMS
Civic Society under the mentorship of esteemed Ms. Saira Javed, lecturer of Clinical
Psychology. This healthcare initiative aimed to raise awareness about renal health and
promote a healthier lifestyle within our community. Kidney damage and diseases often go
unnoticed until the later stages, and our campaign aimed to address this problem by
spreading knowledge about managing kidney health while also promoting early detection. Our
dedicated team, including Muhammad Ahmed Saleem, Mukarram Bin Afzal, Saleha Ahmed,
Warda Waheed, Kinza Maryum, Hajira, Myra Shahbaz, Rabia Shahid, Warda Ali, Husnain Ali,
Arooj Ishtiaq, Nida Rafaqat, Ayesha Shahid, and Shamroze Khan launched an extensive
campaign targeting the general public through different avenues such as hospitals, pharmacies,
restaurants, clothing brands, fruit shops, shoe brands, and bakeries.
Our members working and studying in hospital and pharmacy settings targeted the people
who were most likely to be affected by kidney diseases and teamed up to educate them
about the causes, prevention, and coping strategies for kidney diseases. As part of the
campaign, we also joined hands with various food chains and restaurants to offer healthy
meal options that were low in salt and high in nutrition. They were also encouraged to display
posters, flyers, and brochures about kidney health. Clothing brands were encouraged to
display t-shirts, hoodies, and other apparel featuring slogans such as “Take care of your
kidneys” and “Love your kidneys,” reminding customers of how important their kidney health
is. Fruit vendors were also provided with leaflets on kidney-friendly fruits, highlighting their
benefits, along with the importance of hydration through water and fresh juice.
Furthermore, we requested shoe brands to emphasize the significance of staying active,
especially through walking and jogging, to maintain a healthy weight and improve kidney
function. Bakeries joined the cause by displaying posters from the NUMS Civic Society,
offering guidance on maintaining healthy blood sugar levels to prevent diabetes, a leading
cause of kidney failure. They also received recipes for kidney-friendly desserts from our
professional dietitians.
Overall, this excellent initiative to promote public awareness about kidney health was a huge
success. By engaging with the general public through different avenues, we were able to
provide comprehensive and constructive guidance about kidney health. Through this initiative,
we can hope to see a healthier and more aware society, ultimately improving kidney health
and reducing disease prevalence in our people.
