Antibody Discovery Scientist

Antibody Discovery and Optimization within the company is responsible for the discovery and
engineering of antibodies using cutting edge in vitro display library and single immune B cell
technologies. The groups collaborate widely with company scientists specializing in specific therapeutic
areas, large and small molecule drug discovery, protein engineering, structural biology, computational
design, and data scientists in informatics.

The Display Technologies team is now seeking an experienced laboratory-based research scientist to join
the group and help us apply new molecular biology and in vitro display methods to discover and
optimize the platform specifically for bovine antibodies which we are researching for a number of
exciting therapeutic applications.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and thriving team of scientists, helping to influence the
scientific direction of the team and maximize the delivery and impact of our antibody discovery
workflows to support diverse research areas. The ideal candidate will be a skilled scientist with extensive
experience of biochemical and molecular biological techniques, ideally with hands-on experience of in
vitro display technologies and/or antibody-based research. Experience in display library design and
construction would be beneficial.

The successful candidate will use in vitro selection methods to discover and optimise the highest quality
binders to support the company’s novel therapeutic research.

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled laboratory-based scientist to join the Antibody Discovery team.
There will be opportunities to help develop and establish new technologies for efficiently interrogating
bovine repertoires using single B cell technologies and library-based approaches with the aim to identify
the highest quality monoclonal antibodies.

Primary Responsibilities

• Planning and execution of in vitro display library selections and screening experiments
• Generation of high-quality bespoke display libraries to support bovine antibody engineering
projects.
• Perform a range of binding assays to assess specificity and affinity of engineered antibodies.
• Use your excellent communication and team working abilities to drive the innovative antibody
project forward from the laboratory.
• Present experimental data at cross-functional meetings.
• Contribute to the development of new methodologies/techniques in antibody discovery and
engineering.

Essential Experience

• A postgraduate (ideally PhD-level) scientist with a good understanding of immunology and

antibody structure and function.
• Experience in antibody research would be desirable.
• A solid understanding and proven experience of molecular biology and techniques including
phage and yeast display, and flow cytometry would be beneficial.
• Experience of biochemical techniques used for molecular characterization such as ELISA, FACS,
SPR or BLI and antibody expression / purification is an advantage.
• Experience of NGS approaches to antibody discovery would be advantageous.
• Skills in the use of computational platforms in molecular biology and protein structure viewing
would be a significant advantage.
• A high level of motivation with a proven ability to deliver to tight timelines and work effectively
within multi-disciplinary teams.
• Exceptional organizational, communication and inter-personal skills.
• A passion for delivering innovative new medicines to patients. •
