3. Aristotle: ancient Greek philosopher; teacher of Alexander the Great.

4. Athens: ancient Greek city-state.

5. Caryatids: female statues or columns.

6. City-state: an ancient Greek region that has its own government and laws.

7. Delian League: ancient Athens and its allies.

8. Democracy: political system that comes from Ancient Greece. Government by the
common people (in ancient Athens only men could participate in politics).

9. Minoan civilization: early Greek civilization located on the island of Crete (2500 B.C.).

10. Mount Olympus: mountain on which the ancient Greeks believed the gods and
goddesses lived.

11. Oligarchy: type of government where only a few people ruled.

12. Peloponnesus League: ancient Sparta and its allies.

13. Peloponnesian War: ancient conflict between Athens and Sparta (Classical Greece).

14. Polytheism: belief in more than one god.

15. Plato: ancient Greek philosopher.

16. Pythagoras: ancient Greek mathematician.

17. Sparta: ancient Greek city-state.

18. Trojan War: legendary war between the ancient Greeks and the people of Troy in the
12th or 13th century B.C. (1250 B.C.).
