ULTRASONIC CLEANING PRINCIPLES
HOW ULTRASONIC CLEANING WORKS
During ultrasonic cleaning, very high frequency (28.000 cycles per second) elastic waves are produced in
the liquid surrounding the components to be cleaned. These waves originate pressure and vacuum
phenomena (known as CAVITATION) in the liquid that are real explosions at the molecular scale. The
CAVITATION causes a microscopic hammering that draws out the dirt adhered to the components, on the
surface or elsewhere (nozzles, holes).

The ultrasonic cleaning is usually quick (several minutes) for submerged components. The process is
considerably quicker and the effectiveness increases if hot liquids are used.

ADVANTAGES
The ultrasonic cleaning of industrial pieces has following advantages:
1. The results obtained cannot be achieved by conventional procedures (especially for difficult or delicate
pieces).
2. It avoids manual cleaning
3. It is cost-effective since it allows for significant cost reductions in manpower and generally solvent.
4. It provides a solution for a work that is difficult to assign due to its nature.

The investment is covered in very few months.

COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM

The equipment consists of three basic elements:
- Generator of high frequency: it gives electric impulses to the transducers.
- Transducers: they transform the above mentioned electric impulses in mechanical vibration.
- A tank made of stainless steel containing the cleaning liquid. The transducers transmit the
vibration to the cleaning liquid.

CLEANING LIQUIDS USED

The ultrasonic cleaning must be properly supplemented by an efficient chemical action. There is an
appropriate solvent or detergent for each cleaning necessity.

All process of ultrasonic cleaning requires the immersion of the components in a liquid that should satisfy
two conditions. Firstly, it should possess solvent or humectant properties that break the external film,
thus eliminating the dirt. Secondly, the liquid should not attenuate the ultrasonic vibration; neither should
it lose effectiveness by the action of the ultrasonic waves.

The ultrasonic waves ensure that the whole surface of the components is contacting the cleaning liquid,
allowing the liquid to penetrate in usually inaccessible places. Both solvents and detergents are more
effective if applied warm; the working temperature must be determined for each application depending
generally on the type of pieces and material to clean.

EQUIPMENT DIMENSIONS

The equipment dimensions can vary according to the type and number of pieces that must be cleaned and
to the cleaning time. We especially warn buyers not to acquire equipments whose features and
effectiveness are below the required level.

CAUTIONS
 Avoid blows to the tank, where the transducers are.
 Avoid abrupt temperature changes (let the tank cool down before adding new water; otherwise
the glue used to attach the transducers could be affected).
 Clean the components in baskets or trails, but always suspended.
 Make sure that the generator’s fans are working properly. Stop the equipment if this is not the
case.
 The tanks in the ACM range are not appropriate to work with solvents, since they do not include
condensation systems and other relevant devices.
 Clean the pumping circuit and the auxiliary tank periodically.
 The pump should always remain inside the cleaning liquid.
 After emptying the tank, rinse it thoroughly to remove the metal dust and avoid it could damage
many components.

MACHINE MAIN FEATURES

 ULTRASONIC CLEANING SYSTEM
This equipment has been specifically designed and built to remove dirt, carbon and grease from
automotive pieces. It works with high power 28khz ultrasonic waves, as best results are obtained with this
frequency levels in this applications.

Ultrasonic cleaning time will be different depending on size and material of pieces to be clean, kind of
dirt/grease/carbon to be removed, water tank temperature, chemical cleaning product used, etc. You can
adjust the Automatic Cycle Time in Working Parameters Screen. Your own experience will teach you the
right cycle duration to be used in each case.

 ELEVATOR
Used to easily place pieces to clean inside tank. It can be operated fully manual at all times in Manual
mode. In Automatic mode, elevator will be in up position before start of the cicle. Once cycle is started, it
will do down with pieces. It will perform agitation during Automatic mode when programmed. During
cleaning time in Automatic mode, it can be operated by pressing Up & Down buttons (to check piece
status, for example).

Please, remind to open cover always before raising elevator with pieces, to avoid damage to cover. At
the end of Automatic cycle, a warning message will remind about this.

 LAMINAR FLOW SEPARATION SYSTEM

Grease and oil extracted from pieces cleaned will float in main tank surface. They should be removed
before piece is extracted from tank, in order to avoid already cleaned piece to get dirty again.
UltraTecno’s Laminar Flow Separation System creates a laminar flow over main tank’s surface which
pushes grease to the auxiliary tank. There, it can be easily removed by adjustable cup leading to outlet
hose, or by mechanical extraction.

In Automatic Mode, Laminar Flow will start once cleaning cycle is finished. It will stop when operators
press UP button in order to raise elevator (or after 10 min working). In Manual Mode, Laminar Flow will
work upon demand, by pressing its button. Laminar flow is generated by a pump.

Pol.Ind. Mediterraneo – C/Senyera, nave 19 - 46560 Massalfassar - Valencia (Spain)

Tel.: +34 961 666 565 info@ultratecno.es www.ultratecno.es 6
 FILTERING SYSTEM (OPTIONAL)
Use it regularly to keep bath clean from carbon dust. It will make chemicals life longer.

 AGITATION (BY USING PLATFORM LIFT)

Agitation performed is useful to improve dirt and grease retirement from pieces while being cleaned. In
order to start agitation, elevator must be placed before in full down position (inside tank).

In Automatic mode, agitation duration will be done as percentage from total cycle time. You can set this %
in Working Parameters screen for short, medium & long cycles. Agitation time will be always made at the
end of cycle.

 STOP & GO (only selected models)

Stop&Go is a operation mode for our ultrasonic generator. In this mode, ultrasonic emission is made in
intermittence mode. It helps to remove some kinds of dirt and grease more quickly, as sand inside valves.
Your own experience will teach you when to use this mode to get better results, depending on kind of
material cleaned or dirt to remove.

 PNEUMATIC BLOWER
Once pieces are cleaned, and before taking them from elevator’s tray, you can use Pneumatic Blower in
order to remove water from inside piece (holes, etc.)

 TANK HEATING SYSTEM

Ultrasonic cleaning gets better results when water in main tank is heated (75-85ºC). This improves
cavitation physic process. You can adjust the Set Point temperature in Working Parameters Screen.
Default temperature is 80ºC. Your own experience will teach you best temperature for each kind of
material cleaned or dirt to remove.

 ELECTRICAL BOARD COOLING SYSTEM

Tank Heating System and Ultrasonic Power Circuit Boards generate high quantity of heat. In order to
remove it from inside electric box, there are 3 cooling systems:
- Electric Box Upper Fans: they will work at all times, in order to evacuate heat generated from tank
heating system.
- Ultrasound Circuit Boards Fans: this small fans, mounted on electronic circuit boards will be
working at all times in order to protect electronic components even after Ultrasound System is
stopped (due to thermal inertia).
- Ultrasound Circuit Boards Box Fans: these big fans (1 for each 1KW Ultrasound Power) create a
forced convection air flow which cools Ultrasound Generators while working. They will work only
when Ultrasound System is working.
-
 ECO MODE
Use it every night so bath temperature will drop to 60ºC, saving energy. Quick heat-up to working
temperature (80ºC) can be done quickly (less than 1 hour). Eco Mode can be setup to be
activated/desactivated automatically every night/morning. Desired temperature for Eco Mode can be
changed at Setup screen.

 HEATING SYSTEM TIMER

Use it to program heating system switch on automatically before you arrive, so machine will be ready to
work once, and no need to wait for it to heat-up (3 hours). You can also use it to switch it off automatically
at the end of each week. Also Eco Mode times can be programmed here for daily operation.

Pol.Ind. Mediterraneo – C/Senyera, nave 19 - 46560 Massalfassar - Valencia (Spain)

Tel.: +34 961 666 565 info@ultratecno.es www.ultratecno.es 7
 ULTRASOUND DELAYED START
An automatic cycle can be programmed to be started with some delay. For example, use to leave parts to
clean inside tank when you leave, so chemical & temperature will be working for all night, and quick
ultrasound will be done just before you arrive. This will get very good cleaning resuls with few energy
consumption, as ultrasound time is reduced. Please be aware some materials could get coloured or
damaged when left inside chemicals for a long time.

 ENERGY CONSUMPTION MONITOR SCREEN

At this screen you can monitor energy used by each machine device (measured in kwh). Introduce your
€/kwh cost, so you will know how much money is your cleaning process taking. You can do reset any time
you want (daily, weekly, monthly....)

 CLEANING CHEMICALS CALCULATOR SCREEN

Use it to easily calculate how much chemicals are need to prepare new bath.

 HOURS & SWITCH COUNTER

Use to check how many running hours & switches on each device had since first day (non reset-able
counter).

 MAINTENANCE PROGRAM SCREEN

It will advise about maintenance actions to be done to keep your ultrasonic cleaner in good shape & full
performance.

 AUTOMATIC WATER REFILLING SYSTEM (optional device)

Just connect water supply to provided inlet, and water will be automatically refilled when needed.

CHOOSING RIGHT CHEMICAL PRODUCT

 Depends on the dirt and the part material. Damages can be done when using a wrong chemical.

 The earliest we eliminate the oil, the longer chemicals last.

 Corrosive. When handling them always use security glasses, mask and gloves.

 It’s recommended to formulate a defined concentration. To increase or decrease concentration out

from provided range, won’t improve the cleaning result.

 After bath saturation, a waste management company should take it away.

 When is “the end” for the bath? It happens when the cleaning process last a longer time than usual.
Based on experience.

 To add new fresh chemicals to a dirty bath is not worthy. Best results will be achieved changing the
whole bath when saturation occurs.

PREPARING CLEANING SOLUTION

In order to prepare cleaning solution, please proceed in this way:
Water
1. Fill Auxiliar tank with water up to FILL LEVEL mark (5-10 cm
above level sensor)
Fill Main tank with water up to SAME LEVEL as auxiliar tank,
so enough free room will be left for chemicals to be added later.
Never use hot water for filling, as it could damage transducers.
15ºC Level
2. Set Water Temperature Set Point to 80ºC at Configuration Sensor
Screen. Turn on Heating System.

3. When temperature reaches 40º C, Turn on Ultrasound System, to start degassing process. This will
improve cleaning performance, as existing gas on tap water will absorb energy released from
cavitation.
Chemicals
4. At 70ºC, chemicals can be added. Use Initial Screen
Calculator at Touch Screen for recommended
concentrations.

a. Put on glasses, mask and gloves (irritating).

b. Shake the product inside cans.
70ºC
c. Pour chemicals into Main tank, spreading it over the
whole surface.
Water
5. Fill main tank with water until it’s full. Use laminar flow pump & pneumatic tray agitation up-down
movement, in order to help chemicals to mix.

Tel.: +34 961 666 565 info@ultratecno.es www.ultratecno.es 9
80ºC
Once bath is prepared, you just have to renew daily evaporated water in this way by adding enough
water to main tank until it’s full & auxiliar tank gets to “Fill Level” mark (5-10 cm above level sensor).
Don’t add more water than necessary, as this will reduce room for water coming from main tank when
parts are introduced. Overflow can occur then.

When adding fresh water, full degassing takes up to 4-8 hrs, so equipment won’t have full performance
until then.

You can test slight different concentrations, inside ranges provided, at your own experience.

If the water temperature falls under 10ºC, the dust will deposit on the bottom of the tank. In this case, the
machine will not clean properly, even if we heat the water up to 80ºC.

In order to solve this, you need to shake the liquid of

the tank to ease the solution of the product. Maybe
you need to take away the working tray and shake the
bath with a specific stick as this shown at photograph:

Oil & grease will be retained at surface of auxiliary tank water. In order to remove it, you have to turn
removing device, until it’s at same level as water surface. Then open drain valve so you can extract oil.

Machine has to be well leveled regarding to floor, so this oil removing device works properly. You can
also use a small saucepan or strainer for this purpose.

 Water ON: Use it to manually fill tank with water. Remeber to close after tank is full!!

Enter desired filling time in seconds, depending in supplying water

pressure. Our recommendation is to do small & frequent refillings, so
level in auxiliary tank is always as low as possible (4-8 cms above
sensor level). This will keep free highest possible volume in auxiliary tank to be used as overflow space
when entering big parts to cleanin main tank.

ELECTRICAL ENERGY CONSUMPTION

You can control electrical power consumption being used by each equipment device: Ultrasound

PROGRAMMABLE TIMER HEATING SYSTEM
This timer can be used to control Heating system, helping you to reduce electrical power
consumption, which can save quite money each year. Press over Actual Time to change it.

AUTO START: Select day and time for heating system to start. For example, 3 h before you start cleaning,
so water will be at right temperature for then. You can choose this to be done once, or every week. If you
started system previously manually, Auto Start will not affect.

AUTO STOP: Select day and time for heating system to stop. For example at the end of week, so heating
system will turn off (in case you forget to make it). You can choose this to be done once, or every week. If
you stopped system previously manually, AutoStop will not affect.

ECO MODE: Choose what time Eco Mode will be connected and/or disconnected each day. At the end of
every day, Eco Mode ON will decrease Set Point (see Setup Scree), helping to reduce power consumption
during night. Set Eco Mode OFF enough time
before you start cleaning next day, so water will
be at right temperature for that time. Default Eco Mode Temp is 60ºC. For that temperature, you will
need 1 hour aprox to raise temp again to 80ºC.

ULTRASOUNDS DELAYED START

User can program an automatic cycle (short,
medium or long) to be started with some delay.
For example, use to leave parts to clean inside
tank when you leave, so chemical & temperature
will be working for all night, and quick ultrasound
will be done just before you arrive. This will get
very good cleaning resuls with few energy waste,
as ultrasound time is reduced.
Be aware as some materials could get
coloured/damaged when left inside chemicals for
a long time.
Steps to procedure:
1. Open cover and place parts to clean at tray.
2. Enter desired day & time for cycle to start.
3. Choose desired automatic cycle to perform when time is reached.
4. Tray will go down, and machine will keep waiting entered time to be reached. You can close cover
5. Go back to automatic cycle screen (or system will go automatically when delayed cycle starts).

If you want to cancel programmed cycle before it starts, press Cancel button at this screen, or Stop button
at automatic cycle screen. Note: Press over Actual Time to change it in case it’s not correct.
CLEANING PRODUCT CALCULATOR
Use it to easily calculate how much chemicals do you need to add to prepare new bath.
Recommended values are always shown, but you can modify desired concentration up to your own
experience.

Result is given in both kgs & liters. Machine capacity can only be changed by advanced user
password.

MAINTENANCE PROGRAM SCREEN

It will let you know you about maintenance actions to be done to keep your ultrasonic cleaner in good
shape & full performance. You can press over each operation’s text in order to see photo. System will
advise when one or more operations have to be done, showing message “Maintenance Operations
Pending” on every screen.

In that case, go to Maintenance screen and check with operation has to be done (red flashing light). Once
maintenance is done, press its green button. Alarm for that operation will be re-programmed for next
maintenance, using Frequency parameter. You can change Frequency parameter.

Operations are divided in 2 pages. Press Next / Previous buttons to go through them. Always check system
time is tight. Press over Actual Time to change it in case you need.

GREASE ELEVATOR SHAFT EACH WEEK

Elevator shaft needs to be lubricated frequently to avoid quick nylon bearing waste. Please use provided
greaser each week to fill inner chamber inside shaft with SILICONE GREASE.

CLEAN AIR FILTERS.

Electronic Power boards need to be cooled with air when running. Fans are placed inside machine to get
air from exterior, but this air has to be filtered to prevent dirt or metal particles to damage electronic
boards. Please remove filters and blow or change them every 3 months.

NON RETURN VALVE CLEANING

A non return valve is placed on left side of machine, next to Laminar Flow Pump. It will prevent water from
main tank going back to auxiliary tank with less height. Non return valve must be cleaned every 6 months
or when water is moving from main tank to
auxiliary tank. In order to clean it, machine
has to be empty and left side panel has to be
removed.

AUXILIAR TANK FILTER CLEAN

This filter placed at auxiliary tank prevents any small part (grovers, etc) to enter into Laminar Flow circuit,
which could damage pump and non return valve. Please clean this valve every 6 months. For better
cleaning, you can dismount it by unscrewing it. You can ask UltraTecno for new filter in case you need.

CLEAN TANK WALLS & FLOOR WHEN EMPTYING

After emptying the tank, rinse it thoroughly with water to remove the metal dust and avoid it could
damage any components. Also proper cleaning will prevent ultrasonic erosion to appear early on
transducers sets, and will make its life longer.

CHECK ELEVATOR BEARINGS

Nylon bearing will deteriorate with friction with stainless steel cylinder bar. Good lubrication can delay
this process, but bearings must be checked every 12 months. If gap opens between bearing and cylinder
bar, elevator movement will not be smooth, and loading cargo will decrease.

CHEACK TRAY GUIDE-ROLLERS
Two Teflon guide-rollers are placed at tray to prevent it from rotating. Every 12 months must be checked
they are running freely. Please don’t tight bolts too much, as this will prevent guide rollers to run freely.

CHECK POWER BOARDS & FANS

Every 12 months panel on right side of machine has to be removed to check all power boards and their
fans are running ok. You will notice power boards are running as red lights will light when ultrasounds are
activated. You can also measure power consumption with clamp-meter to verify.

HIBRYD HEATING SYSTEM (Optional)

Hybrid Heating uses both hot water from customers central heating (gas/diesel/sun power...) and
electrical energy from installed resistances at tank. There are two valves for in and out hot water
connection back of machine. Any of them can be in our out. Connect to your central heating system.

Set Electrical Heating Start Temperature to desired frontier level at which Hot Water heating will
stop, and electrical system will start. For example, if your hot water system is at 70ºC, use 55-60ºC.

Customer's hot water installation must be always keep with hot water and pressure, so hot water
will recirculate, as our system does not include any pump.

ECO Mode Temperature has to be equal or lower to frontier temperature, as when ECO Mode
activated, it will never use electrical heating system.

ALARM MESSAGES

EMERGENCY STOP. PRESS REARM BUTTON AT HOME SCREEN.

This alarm message is shown in case Emergency Button is pressed. Once the problem that originated the
emergency is solved, please go to Home screen, release Emergency Button and rearm system by pressing
Rearm button at Home screen.

PUMP BREAKDOWN.

Shown if the electric thermal protection for the flow pump is released. Please re-arm the protection in
the main electric box and go on.

HIGH WATER TEMPERATURE. 15 MINUTES STOP.

Shown if water temperature reaches 94ºC due to high power ultrasounds, even with heating system
disconnected. Ultrasounds & Heating system will stop for 15 minutes.

WATER LOW LEVEL. FILL THE TANK.

Shown if the water level in the tank is too low and automatic water refilling is not available or it was not
able to recover working level. Ultrasounds, Heating and Laminar Flow systems will stop working. Please,
fill the tank with more water/cleaning product and press OK at blue screen to re-start (blue screen will
only appear in main Manual/Automatic Screens)

POSSIBLE AGITATION SENSOR FAILURE

Shown if system does not detect tray arriving to return point after 7 seconds, as this could mean return
point sensor failing. In this case, system will take tray down to avoid cover being hit with parts at tray. This
message doesn’t mean sensor is failing, as it will be shown if reaching turning point takes more than 7
seconds when agitation with heavy parts or with tray speed reduced (increase tray speed with flow
regulators).

OVER PRESSURE IN PUMP - CLEAN FILTER

Automatic pressure detector will stop pump if pressure

inside filter is higher than 3 bar (adjustable). An alarm
message will be shown so filter is cleaned. Do it, and then
press OK.
