I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of this module, the learners will be able to:
A. understand the seven techniques that they can apply their artistic skills and techniques in the
process of creation;
B. value the importance of choosing the right materials in conveying messages through the
artworks; and
C. create using any of the seven techniques that present the causes and effects of technology

B. Deepening

Techniques and production go simultaneously. There is no production without any techniques.


Some contemporary artist did not study fine arts or any other formal studies about arts. Some learn by
interacting with other artist or studying on their own by going around, visiting places to get ideas on
what they would want to create. They even conduct experiments of materials, especially recyclable
ones, to find out which material would work in the production of their artwork. They adopt and
construct their concept to integrate into their artwork production. Careful planning of techniques and
design is done. The artist undergoes rigid practicing and experimenting before finalizing the production
of his/her particular artwork.

Seven techniques that they can apply their artistic skills and techniques in the process of
creation

A. Collage
 Are the techniques of an art production primarily used in
the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an
assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new
whole.
 A Collage may sometimes include magazine and
newspaper clippings, ribbons, paints, bits of colored or
handmade papers portions of other artwork or text,
photographs, and other found objects, glued to a piece of
paper or canvass.

B. Decollage
 Is the opposite of collage; instead of an image is being
built up all or parts of existing images, it is created by
cutting, treating away or otherwise removing pieces of
an original image.
 The French world “ Decollage” in English means “Take
– Off” or “To become Unglued” or “To become unstuck.
 “ Examples of Decollage include ettesissements and
cut-up technique. The similar technique is the lacerated
poster, a poster in which one has been placed over
another or others, and the top poster or posters have
been ripped, revealing to a greater or lesser degree the poster underneath.

C. Graffiti
 Are writing or drawings that have been scribbled,
scratched, or painted illicitly on a wall or other
surface, often in a public space. Graffiti range from
simple written words to elaborate wall paintings.
 Graffiti may express underlying social and political
messages, and a whole genre of artistic expression
is based spray paint graffiti styles.
 An example of this is the Singapore art bridge just
beside the Oxford hotel where the writer stayed in
their visit to Singapore. It Is said to be painted by
Batanes- born artist.

D. Land-art
 Artworks or earth arts. It is also an art form that
is created in nature, using natural materials such
as soil, rock, (bedrock, boulders, stones), organic
media, (logs, branches, leaves) and water which
introduced materials such as concrete, metal,
asphalt, or mineral pigments.
 A sculpture is not placed in the landscape
rather, the landscape of their creation. Often
earth moving equipment is involved.

 The works frequently exist in the open, located well away from civilization, left to change
and erode under natural conditions.
E. Digital Arts
 It is an artistic work or practices that work or practice that
uses digital technology as an essential part of the creative
or presentation process. Digital art is placed under the
larger umbrella term new media art.
 After some resistance, the impact of digital technology has
transformed activities such as paintings, drawings,
sculpture, and music/ sound art, while new form, such as
net art. Digital installation art and virtual reality have
become recognized artistic practices.
 More generally the term digital artist is used to describe an
artist who makes use of digital technologies in the
production of art.
 It is a term applied to contemporary art that uses the
method of mass production or digital media.
 The techniques of digital art are used extensively by the mainstream media in advertisement
and film-makers to produce visual effects. Both digital and traditional artist use many
sources of electronic information and programs to create their work

F. Mixed-Media
 It is a visual art, it refers to an artwork in
the making of which then one medium has
been employed.
 It refers to a work of visual art that
combines traditionally distinct art media.
For example, work on canvas that
combines paint, ink, and collage.
 When creating a painted or photographed
work using mixed media, it is important to
choose the layers carefully and allow
enough drying time between the layers to
ensure the final work will have structural
integrity.
 If many different media are used, it is
equally important to choose a sturdy foundation upon which different layers are
imposed..
 Many effects can be achieved by using mixed media. Found objects can be used in
conjunction with the traditional artist to attain a wide range self- expression.

G. Printmaking
 Is the process of making
artworks by painting,
normally in the paper.
 Prints are created by
transforming ink form a
matrix or through a prepared
screen to a sheet of paper or
other material.
 Common types of
matrixes include; metal
plates, usually copper or
zinc, or polymer plates for
engraving or etching; stone
aluminum or polymer for lithography; blocks of wood for wood crafts and wood engravings;
and linoleum for linocuts. Screens made of silk or synthetic fabrics are used for the printing
process.

 The discussed techniques eventually became pars in the productions of different artworks.

E. ABSTRACTION

In this topic, Artistic Skills and Techniques to Contemporary Art Creations is introduce to
your artistic skills which are already enhanced. Artists carefully choose the materials and
techniques to create any artwork of their interest. There are seven techniques that help to
understand the importance of choosing the right materials in conveying messages through the
artworks, they are collage that is a technique of an art production where the artwork is made from
an assemblage of different forms to create a new whole, a decollage that is opposite of collage
that created by cutting, treating away or removing pieces of an original image, graffiti that are
writing or drawing that have been scribbled, scratched, or painted on a wall or other surface that
expresses underlying social and political messages, land-art that is an art form that is created in
nature, using natural materials such as soil and rock, digital arts that is an artistic work uses digital
technology as an essential part of the creative or presentation process, mixed-media refers to a
work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media and lastly the
printmaking that are created by transforming ink from a matrix to a sheet of paper or other
material. In creating beautiful and creative artworks the very important is the artist’s feelings,
emotions, and ideas that are conveyed in the artworks that they produced.

F. APPLICATION: Enriching the minds


Group yourself in into four (7). Make or create a Collage, Decollage, Graffiti, Land Arts, Digital
Arts, Mixed Media, and Printmaking that present the causes and effects of technology.
