COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is intended to expose students to the rudiments of human resource management
and the concepts, values and philosophy guiding human resource management. The course
will expose students to basic HRM functions at the micro-level, as well as models of HRM.
The relevance of HRM to organisational functioning as well as the emerging issues in HRM
will be discussed.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
1. Define the concept of Human Resource Management
2. Discuss the various Models of HRM
3. Discuss the various functions of HRM
4. Explain the relevance of HRM in organisational functioning/performance
5. Discuss some emerging issues in HRM

COURSE AND UNIVERSITY POLICIES:


Attendance
Students enrolled in this course are expected to make 65% attendance at Lectures in order to
be eligible for examination.

Evaluation

Continuous Assessment: 30 marks


The progress of students enrolled in this course will be continuously assessed through tests,
written assignments, reports and/or such other means as may be consistent with the objectives
and conduct of the of the course as determined by the Department.
Examinations: 70 marks
This course will normally be examined at the end of the Semester in which it is offered and
the duration of the examination shall be a period of not less than one hour and not more than
three hours.
Final Marks:
This course shall be graded on the basis of 100 total marks with proportions of Continuous
Assessment not being less than 30% or greater than 40% and Course examination not
being less than 60% or greater than 70%.
